Canada Moves to Deport Nigerian Migrant Rights Activist Olukunle Adetunji Over Illegal Re-entry

Published

on

Nigerian migrant rights activist Olukunle Adetunji is facing deportation from Canada over his immigration status after years of trying to legalise his stay in the country.

According to Canadian media outlet CityNews, Adetunji first arrived in Canada in 2012 but was deported to Nigeria in 2014. He reportedly remained in Nigeria for two years before returning to Canada illegally in 2016.

Adetunji married his wife, Kimora, in 2014, and the couple have three sons. They later explored applying for permission for him to remain in Canada on compassionate grounds.

However, he was arrested and detained at Maplehurst Correctional Complex before being transferred through immigration detention facilities, including the Toronto Immigration Holding Centre. He was later released while attempting to regularise his status, but now faces deportation.

Speaking about the possibility of being separated from his children, Adetunji said, “I’ve been taken away from my three boys. I made them promise that I’d never leave them. And, for me to break that promise is…I don’t know, I can’t break that promise.”

He also expressed concern about returning to Nigeria, saying he had no family ties or place to stay there.

“I have no ties with Nigeria. I don’t have a place to stay. It’s like a death sentence,” he said.

PHOTOS: Two Women Arrested Over Alleged Attempt to Steal Newborn After Fake Pregnancy Plot

Published

on

Tension reportedly erupted at a hospital after two women were allegedly caught attempting to steal a newborn baby.

According to reports, one of the women allegedly faked her pregnancy by stuffing cloth under her clothes to create the appearance of a baby bump. The other woman reportedly posed as her elder sister, claiming she had accompanied her to the hospital to assist with the delivery.

However, the alleged plan was reportedly uncovered before they could leave with the newborn. While the woman who faked the pregnancy was apprehended, her suspected accomplice reportedly escaped from the hospital.

The arrested woman was subsequently whisked away by the police after being confronted by people at the facility.

The incident came to light after a video showing the woman being confronted at the hospital surfaced on social media. The name and location of the hospital have not been disclosed.

Some of those present are heard speaking Yoruba and repeatedly urging her to admit to the alleged offence.

Reports accompanying the video claim that the woman had concealed clothes beneath her outfit to make it appear as though she was pregnant before visiting the hospital with her alleged accomplice.

Following the confrontation, the police were reportedly contacted and took the suspect away.

Ohe Osun Amotekun Corps has arrested five suspects over alleged theft, conspiracy, shop burglary and fraud in different locations across the state.

The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Adebisi Olalere; 33-year-old Isiaka Yinusa; 30-year-old Farika Azeez; 30-year-old Daniel Moses and 30-year-old Monday Lawrence.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following complaints about their alleged activities.

The statement said Corps Commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, said operatives acted on the complaints and apprehended the suspects at different locations, including their alleged hideouts and scenes of reported offences.

“Olalere, a herbalist from Gbongan, was arrested over allegations that he conspired with armed robbers and supplied them with traditional charms intended to assist their criminal activities.

“He was reportedly arrested alongside Yinusa, also from Gbongan, who was apprehended in connection with an alleged shop burglary in the town.

“Yinusa is a former convict who had previously served a prison sentence for motorcycle theft. Both men allegedly admitted involvement in the offences during preliminary investigations,” the statement disclosed.

In a separate incident, Azeez, from Modakeke, was arrested over the alleged theft of a gas cylinder and other items in the community.

The Corps said Azeez had previously been convicted of a similar offence and had served a jail term.

He allegedly admitted to the latest incident during interrogation.

“Moses and Lawrence, both 30-year-old men from Benue State residing in Ipinrindo, Atakumosa East Local Government Area, were arrested over the alleged theft of iron rods from the local government secretariat.

“Moses allegedly admitted participating in the theft and said the stolen iron rods, estimated to be worth between N50,000 and N100,000, were sold to scrap dealers for between N4,000 and N5,000,” the statement added.

Omoyele said preliminary investigations had produced admissions from some of the suspects, while some had reportedly identified other individuals allegedly connected with the incidents.

The Corps commander urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies to help prevent crime and address potential security threats across Osun State.

“The five suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the statement added..
