Tai Solarin: Pioneer of Non-Religious Education in Nigeria

Published

on

Taiwo “Tai” Solarin (1922–1994) was a bold Nigerian educator and social critic who revolutionized education by founding Nigeria’s first non-religious school, the Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State, in 1952. Born alongside his twin sister in Ikenne-Remo, Tai’s passion for free thought and discipline shaped his lifelong mission.

After serving in the British Royal Air Force during World War II, he pursued higher education in the UK, studying History, Geography, and education. Returning to Nigeria, he championed an education system free from religious influence, first as principal of Molusi College and then through Mayflower School, which emphasized self-reliance and hard work.

His legacy lives on through institutions bearing his name, including Tai Solarin University of Education, and his powerful tombstone inscription: “Here lies Tai Solarin, who lived and died for humanity.” A true pioneer who challenged norms and inspired generations.

The actress revealed that she once met someone she believed she could share forever with, but he passed away, and she has not found anyone else since.

Bimbo Akintola, the Nollywood actress, has revealed the reasons she remains single.

In an interview with Pulse Nigeria, the 52-year old thespian said she does not have children and explained that her single status is not by choice.

Naija News reports that Akintola, whose mother is from Edo State and father from Oyo State, described marriage as a sacred union that should take place in the house of God, surrounded by loved ones.

She said she has not yet found the right person to spend her life with.

The actress revealed that she once met someone she believed she could share forever with, but he passed away, and she has not found anyone else since.

She explained that honesty and truth are important to her, and she would not marry someone unless she was sure she could be with them for life.

Akintola added that she is open to marriage at any age if she meets the right person, even at 78.

According to her, while marriage does not define a woman’s worth, it becomes more important as people grow older and children move on with their own lives.

She said that companionship in later years helps to prevent loneliness.

She said: “I don’t have children, unfortunately. Marraige is important. Marriage is simple. It’s something that you do in the house of God. You go to church, call everyone that love you and say those vows that you will cherish and do the the rest of your life with. I haven’t found the person I would do the rest of my life with. I did found. But he died. And I haven’t found since then. And I can’t lie, I don’t know how to live a lie. I want everything to be in truthfulness. I want to be true to myself and God. I don’t think I would want to marry anyone that I won’t be able to stay with them forever

“If I think I can, if I believe I can, I would do it, even if I’m 78. Why not?.Marraige is important. It doesn’t make you, women, it’s not the end and be all of your life. But it’s also an important thing to do especially as you get older. And everyone is going their way, children have grown they are going their way. There’s something called loneliness, so you need a companion for the later years.”

Some Pastors Wanted To Sleep With Me – Actress, Sarah Martins Reveals Why She Stopped Going To Church

Published

on

She explained that she was once active in church activities but later realised that attending services alone does not guarantee favour with God.

Sarah Martins, the Nollywood actress, has shared her reasons for no longer attending church, despite identifying as a Christian.

She explained that she was once active in church activities but later realised that attending services alone does not guarantee favour with God.

In an interview with The PUNCH, she revealed that her decision to stop going to church came after repeated experiences of pastors making unwanted advances toward her in every congregation she joined.

This led her to focus on building a personal connection with God, keeping a promise to remain faithful and live in ways she believes please Him.

Martins added that she now expresses her faith through charity work and private worship, which she said has brought her answered prayers.

“I am not an atheist. I’m a Christian, and I used to be very active in church, but over time I realised that going to church alone doesn’t make you God’s favourite. It’s what you do behind closed doors that really matters.

“Unfortunately, in every church I attended, the pastors started making advances at me. So, I stopped. I built a personal relationship with God and made a promise to stay faithful to Him by doing things that please Him.

“Since then, every time I go down on my knees, He answers. So yes, the pastoral advances pushed me away, but I now worship God in my own way—through charity and personal devotion.”
