Seven travellers have lost their lives and 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a head-on collision along the Kano–Katsina Expressway.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, in a statement posted on X on Monday, stated that the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near Cikakoshi village in Katsina State.
According to him, the incident involved a white J5 bus and a black Golf 3 wagon.
He wrote, “At least seven persons have died and 13 others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between two vehicles along the Kano–Katsina road near Cikakoshi village, Katsina State.
“Zagazola gathered that the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, involving a white J5 bus with registration number BTR 47 XY driven by Salisu Mohd, 40, of Tsagero village, transporting passengers and cattle, and a black Golf 3 wagon with registration number BCA 236 TY, driven by an unidentified person conveying passengers and goods.“
According to sources he quoted in the statement, the crash happened when the two vehicles, travelling from opposite directions, collided head-on at the same point.
Makama added that emergency responders and sympathisers rushed to the scene to assist the victims.
“Seven of the injured were certified dead by a medical doctor, while the remaining victims were admitted for treatment. The police confirmed that an investigation into the accident had commenced,” he added.
When contacted, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, requested our correspondent to send his inquiry via a text message.
He had yet to respond to the message as of the time this report was filed.
PUNCH Metro reported in July that the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, was involved in a road accident along the Daura–Katsina road.
The governor was on his way back from Daura to Katsina when the incident occurred.
