Ex-PDP gov aspirant leads supporters to APC in Kebbi

Published

on

Kebbi’s political map shifted on Tuesday as Alhaji Lawali Dakingari, a prominent PDP chieftain and former governorship aspirant, led a massive wave of defections.

The defection included 2,208 delegates from polling units across Suru Local Government Area from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The move marks one of the largest single defections in Kebbi in recent months and underscores the increasingly fluid political alliances as parties manoeuvre ahead of future election cycles.

The defectors were received at the government house, Birnin Kebbi, by Governor Nasir Idris, alongside APC leaders and representatives from all 21 local government areas of the state.

Suru LG and the wider Dakingari political structure have traditionally been key assets to both PDP and APC in Kebbi, especially since the era of ex- Governor Sa’idu Dakingari (2007–2015).

PDP once dominated the zone, but its influence has waned following APC’s consolidation of power in the state and internal PDP disputes after the 2023 elections.

Speaking at the event, Lawali Dakingari said the mass switch to the APC was done “in good faith” and without conditions, crediting the leadership style of Governor Idris and the political legacy of former Governor Dakingari.

“We joined the APC because we believe in sincerity, justice and unity,” he said, noting that members of the ADC and long-standing PDP loyalists dating back to 1999 were part of the wave.

He disclosed that more defections are expected in the coming days, including former local government chairmen and other political stakeholders who could not attend due to short notice, signalling continued realignments within Kebbi’s opposition space.

APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, described the development as a “major numerical boost” for the party, urging both new and old members to prioritise party registration and voter mobilisation ahead of future elections.

Governor Idris thanked the defectors, saying the influx reflects shared goals and growing alignment across Suru and beyond.
“Today we are one family. By the grace of Allah, we will continue to work together to deepen peace, strengthen security and deliver more dividends of democracy,” he said.

“Let Tinubu Finish His Job, He’ll Pull Nigeria Out of This Mess” — Jide Kosoko Urges Nigerians

Published

on

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration amid criticism over Nigeria’s economic hardship, insisting that things are not as bad as some Nigerians portray them.

The 72-year-old actor spoke during an interview on Talk To B, a podcast hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, in a video posted on YouTube on Friday night.

Kosoko, an open supporter of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), blamed previous administrations for failing to plan adequately for Nigeria’s growing population, arguing that the current government was addressing inherited problems.

“Things are not as bad as some people made us understand,” he said, adding that some Nigerians complaining about hunger had no meaningful source of livelihood before Tinubu assumed office.

He also defended the removal of fuel subsidy, arguing that the funds previously used to sustain it could be redirected towards essential services. He cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of the government’s initiatives and urged beneficiaries to share their experiences.

While acknowledging that Nigerians were going through difficult times, Kosoko urged citizens to remain patient, insisting that the administration had introduced policies capable of attracting investments and improving the country’s situation.

The actor further called on Nigerians to re-elect Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that opposition parties had little to offer compared with the incumbent.

“Let’s allow the man to finish his job. He’s doing well,” Kosoko said.

He also expressed confidence in the president’s ability to address the country’s challenges, stating, “My appeal is this. He will take us out of this mess. He is only cleaning up people’s mess.”

Dave Umahi inaugurates APC infrastructure campaign team ahead of 2027 elections

Published

on

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has inaugurated members of the Office of the Deputy Director-General, Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.

Umahi, who serves as DDG, Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation for the council, said the team would identify, document and publicise infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government across the country.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting in Abuja on Thursday, he said the initiative was aimed at strengthening coordination, infrastructure communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“The team’s primary responsibility is to identify, document, compile, and publicise infrastructure projects the Federal Government is executing across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“Although the Federal Ministry of Works accounts for a significant proportion of the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments, the team’s coverage should extend to other MDAs.

“This is to ensure a comprehensive account of infrastructure development across the six geopolitical zones of the country.”

Umahi said the Senior Special Assistants to the President (SSA-P) on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones who also appointed as Zonal Coordinators, other members of the ODDG, alongside the Secretary, should work collaboratively.

This, he said, was to identify and document relevant infrastructure projects within their respective zones.

He emphasised that the compilation should cover projects executed by the Federal Ministry of Works, as well as infrastructure initiatives undertaken by other MDAs.

He said this was to provide a comprehensive overview of infrastructure investments and the developmental strides of the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Tinubu, across the length and breadth of the country.

The minister clarified that existing publicity activities between the Ministry of Works and the senior special assistants would continue.

He added that the new office would provide a broader framework for coordinating information on infrastructure projects undertaken by other MDAs at zonal, sub-national and national levels.

According to him, accurate documentation and effective communication will make information on government infrastructure investments more accessible to Nigerians.

Umahi described infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth, national development and community integration.

“Infrastructure investment stimulates economic activities, connects communities, creates opportunities and supports the growth of other sectors of the economy,” he said.

He also highlighted the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology in road construction, saying it would reduce dependence on imported bitumen and promote the use of local resources and expertise.

The minister said the technology would support local economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported road construction material and promote more durable infrastructure delivery.

He urged members of the office to ensure that information on infrastructure projects was accurately compiled and effectively disseminated to the public.
