“I am a woman of excellence and results. I am ready to serve and lead. With my background, I am fully prepared and ready to fight for what truly matters. I promise to be the voice of the youths in the House.

“As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward,” she added.

Peter Obi reveals details of his meeting with Former President Goodluck Jonathan

Published

on

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has described his recent closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan as a productive session focused on the future of Nigeria.

Leading a delegation of South-East leaders and political associates to Jonathan’s residence, Obi noted that the engagement is part of an ongoing consultation process with key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following the meeting, Obi shared on X that “Our discussions were frank, thoughtful, and anchored on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria on the path of unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.”

He emphasized that the nation’s current economic hardships and security challenges necessitate a unified approach from leaders across all regional lines.

Addressing the leadership qualities he believes the country needs, Obi stated, “Nigeria today requires leadership that is guided not by personal ambition, but by competence, character, capacity, and compassion. Governance is not about sharing what is left, but about creating what is needed.”

He further advocated for a systemic shift in the national economic model, moving away from consumption toward a focus on production by leveraging Nigeria’s human and natural resources.

Looking toward the next election cycle, Obi characterized the upcoming 2027 polls as a pivotal moment for the country’s trajectory. “The 2027 elections must not just be seen as another political exercise, but as a critical opportunity to reset the trajectory of our country,” he said.

“It must be about the Nigerian child who deserves quality education, the struggling entrepreneur who needs a conducive environment to thrive, and the millions of citizens who simply desire a secure and functional nation.”

I’m not under pressure to resign as Lagos gov — Sanwo-Olu

Published

on

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the story as false and misleading.

In a statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report, attributed to an online media platform, was a fabrication.

Akosile raised concerns over what he described as a pattern of misinformation linked to the online platform.

He said the governor remains in good health, mentally fit, and fully engaged in his duties.

The reaction follows a report alleging that Sanwo-Olu was under pressure to step down over health issues, with Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat expected to assume office.

The statement reads partly, “This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign-this is another fake news.”

It added that, “Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary.”

Ex- Oyo LG chairman joins Reps race, donates new APC secretariat

Published

on

A former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area in Oyo State, Kehinde Olaosebikan, has declared his intention to contest the Oluyole Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

He made the declaration at the APC’s weekly meeting in the local government on Monday, during which he also donated a new secretariat to the party.

Olaosebikan, who once served as Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor Lam Adesina, said he was already mobilising support across party lines for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

He said Nigeria would vote for Tinubu on account of several reforms introduced under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The former council boss also pledged to work towards a resounding victory for the President in the federal constituency, saying he had consistently supported the Tinubu administration and was committed to tripling the President’s votes in the area by 2027.

On his House of Reps ambition, Olaosebikan said supporters from other political parties had assured him that if APC handed him the ticket, they would mobilise their members not only for his election but for all APC candidates in the constituency.

“Members of other political parties in Oluyole Local Government are already assuring me that if the APC gives me the ticket, they will mobilise their members not only for my elections but for all the APC candidates in next year’s election,” he said.

Speaking on the secretariat donation, Olaosebikan said it was necessary for a progressive party like the APC to have a more spacious and befitting facility for its activities.

He said the new building would have offices for the party chairman, secretary, state party executives from the local government and spaces for other officers.

“With the spacious place now, our youths and our women can have a convenient place for their meetings,” he said.

On his legislative agenda, Olaosebikan pledged to prioritise development of the constituency, provide education support and skills acquisition programmes for youths, facilitate employment opportunities, assist indigent students and extend support to women.

The event, which drew a large turnout of party faithful, was presided over by the APC chairman in the local government, Dotun Oladipupo.

Notable party leaders in attendance included Adeyemo, Razak Akilapa, Muideen Abiodun, Ibrahim Olaifa, Moruf Lamolo, Tunde Elegbede, Waheed Adewale, Kamorudeen Adeoye and Alamu.
