The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Immigration Service have pledged to strengthen their collaboration on border security, migration management and responses to emerging threats in Yobe State.

The commitment was made on Wednesday, when the Commander, Headquarters Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Edet Effiong, received the newly posted Comptroller of the NIS Yobe State Command, Comptroller IZ Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to the Sector Headquarters in Damaturu.

Speaking during the meeting, Effiong stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between security agencies in maintaining security along Nigeria’s borders.

He said, “Effective information sharing, coordinated border surveillance and closer engagement with border communities” were necessary to disrupt terrorism, human trafficking, smuggling and irregular migration.

The Sector Commander said a well-coordinated security architecture remained essential to preventing criminal and terrorist elements from exploiting gaps across the border environment.

He added that Operation HADIN KAI was ready to support stronger collaboration with the Immigration Service and other security stakeholders.

According to Effiong, “enhanced coordination, professionalism and appropriate use of technology” would contribute significantly to improving border monitoring, strengthening operational effectiveness and advancing Nigeria’s broader national security objectives.

He also emphasised the importance of working closely with communities in border areas to identify threats and strengthen security measures.

Responding, Comptroller Abubakar commended the Nigerian Army for its continued support and cooperation with the Immigration Service.

He said the NIS would work to “deepen the existing synergy, enhance personnel capacity and operational readiness” to improve border security operations across Yobe.

Abubakar also pledged to strengthen border surveillance and migration control, saying the agency remained committed to working with the military and other security stakeholders to achieve shared security objectives.

The two officials agreed on the need for closer coordination, improved information sharing and collective action to secure Nigeria’s borders and protect border communities.

The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.

The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI and the Immigration Service to closer cooperation in securing Nigeria’s borders and sustaining peace and stability across Yobe State and the wider Northeast.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has redeployed 13 senior officers across various commands and departments.

The FRSC said the redeployment is a strategic move aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, institutional capacity and service delivery.

The redeployment, approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, affects officers across senior management and operational positions.

In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, National Headquarters, Osondu Ohaeri, shared on the Corps’ X handle on Thursday, the FRSC said the exercise was designed to “inject fresh perspectives, leverage professional competencies and ensure that officers are deployed where their experience and capabilities can deliver the greatest institutional value.”

Five Assistant Corps Marshals are among the senior officers affected by the redeployment.

ACM GO Omiko, PhD, formerly ACM Special Duties and External Relations (SDER), has been redeployed as ACM in charge of Operations Department.

ACM EF Akinlade, MInstTA, formerly ACM Research, will now serve as ACM Command Administration and Strategy in Operations at the national headquarters, Abuja.

Similarly, ACM JO Asaolu, PSC, MInstTA, formerly ACM Policy Advisory Unit, has been redeployed to take over as ACM Research.

ACM MB Ibrahim, formerly ACM Special Marshals, will now serve as ACM Special Duties and External Relations, while ACM FA Ogidan, formerly ACM Command Administration and Strategy at RSHQ Operations, has been redeployed as Zonal Commanding Officer, RS10HQ, Sokoto.

The Corps Marshal described the movement as “a normal feature of a dynamic organisation committed to continuous improvement.”

He said, “Strategic deployment remains essential to building a responsive, agile and performance-driven road safety institution.”

According to him, “the FRSC must continuously optimise its human resources in line with emerging road safety realities and the changing demands of traffic management and enforcement across the country.”

The Corps said the redeployment also underscored its commitment to “professionalism, accountability, operational discipline and effective leadership,” while ensuring that its commands remain adequately positioned to respond to evolving challenges in road transportation and road safety administration.

The affected officers have been directed to report to their new commands and assume duty with immediate effect, while ensuring a “seamless and properly documented handing/taking over process.”

The Corps Marshal charged the redeployed officers to regard their new assignments “not merely as changes in location or responsibility, but as renewed opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the Corps’ mandate of reducing road traffic crashes and making Nigerian roads safer for all users.”

He further urged them to bring “the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, innovation and commitment” to their new commands, noting that “every posting is a call to greater responsibility and every assignment is an opportunity to make a measurable difference.”

The FRSC leadership said it remained focused on building “a stronger, more responsive and performance-oriented institution” capable of delivering on its statutory mandate and advancing the national road safety agenda.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to heal divisions in the state and pursue an inclusive administration after the recent governorship election, promising to uphold equity and fairness in the next phase of his tenure.

Adeleke made the pledge in a state broadcast on Thursday to mark the 35th anniversary of the creation of Osun State, as he acknowledged the pains, deaths and injuries arising from the recent electoral crisis.

The governor said the difficult circumstances surrounding the election had tested the state’s democratic values, while commending residents for their commitment to democracy and the rule of law.

A release on his official X handle revealed all these.

“My people, as you have again conferred the leadership mandate on me under recent difficult circumstances, I promise to heal the wounds, unite the people and uphold equity and fairness,” Adeleke said.

“Our administration will be all inclusive and attentive to criticisms in our bid to strengthen state development.”

He said the experience of the past few months had caused significant disruption to the lives of residents, particularly families who lost loved ones.

“I recognise the pains and sacrifices of our people in the last few months,” Adeleke said.

“We all recognise the unfortunate disruptions in our lives due to the recent governorship election. In many fora, I empathize with many families who lost loved ones. Your sacrifices and those of many who were injured will not go in vain.”

Inquiry, compensation fund over election violence

Adeleke announced the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into the recent electoral violence, saying it would receive memoranda from victims and residents affected by the incidents.

“Our administration is setting up a Commission of Inquiry on election violence. The body will take memorandum from all victims and residents who are affected by recent electoral violence,” he said.

“This initiative is to identify the causes and remedies and proffer ways to stop such recurrence in the future.”

The governor also announced an election victim compensation fund headed by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun.

“Our administration has also set up an election victim compensation fund headed by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun,” Adeleke said.

“This initiative is to cushion the effect of the recent needless violence.”

He urged residents not to engage in reprisal attacks.

“As we celebrate the anniversary of the creation of our dear state, I urge all residents to be law abiding and avoid violence. We must not engage in reprisal attacks,” he said.

Osun voters for defending democracy

The governor also praised residents for turning out to vote despite the violence surrounding the election.

“On the day of election, you trooped out en masse to exercise your voting rights. You did so with candour and fearlessness. Amidst reign of terror, you rejected the guns and embraced the ballot,” he said.

“As true sons and daughters of the source, you not only voted but you defended your votes even at personal risk to your lives. Again, I doff my cap for your courage and patriotism.”

Adeleke described the election as the toughest test of Osun’s identity since the state’s creation 35 years ago.

“Of all developments in the last 35 years of the creation of our dear state, this last state election stands out as the toughest test of who we are as a people,” he said.

“By your conduct and the outcome of the polls, Osun people demonstrated to the world that we are indeed the cradle of the Yoruba race, that we are people of valour and integrity.”

He said the state’s recent experience represented more than an electoral contest.

“Our recent experience as a state is not only a defence of democracy but of good governance and rule of law,” Adeleke said.

Build on infrastructure, education, healthcare

Adeleke pledged to build on his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, digital economy, sports, agricultural mechanisation, education and healthcare.

“We will build on our achievements on state infrastructure, digital economy, sports development, agricultural mechanisation, education and healthcare expansion,” he said.

“The youth, women and students will continue to receive special attention.”

He also promised greater attention to industrialisation, workers’ welfare, rural development, ease of doing business, wealth creation and anti-poverty initiatives.

“We will continue to implement our renewed five point agenda within the compass of due process, procurement regulations and project implementation best practices,” Adeleke said.

“We will further refine the adoption of the local content model while expanding financial inclusion through cooperative sector financing.”

The governor called for continued cooperation from residents as Osun marked 35 years of its creation.

“On this anniversary day, we have a lot to be proud of despite our challenges. I seek your continued cooperation to further deliver good governance. I will work harder never to disappoint you, the great people of Osun state.”
