Published

on

The Nigerian Army and the Anambra State Government have paid their final respects to retired Lieutenant General Chikaidibia Isaac Obiakor, the first African to serve as the United Nations Military Adviser for Peacekeeping Operations, describing him as an accomplished officer whose contributions to Nigeria and international peace efforts would remain indelible.

The burial ceremony took place on October 9, 2026, at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State, with senior military officers, government officials, family members and other dignitaries in attendance.

The ceremony followed a Service of Songs held on October 8 at the late general’s country home, culminating in his burial with full military honours.

Delivering an oration on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Major General T.E. Gagariga described Obiakor as ‘an exceptional officer whose personality, professionalism and leadership earned him respect across the Armed Forces.’

According to a statement on X issued on Sundays by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Shaibu described the late general as “a pleasant, confident, and extraordinary officer whose personality earned him respect and admiration across the Armed Forces.”

The Chief of Army Staff also praised Obiakor’s professional competence, analytical ability and commitment to achieving results, noting that these qualities shaped his leadership and influenced the commands under his supervision.

He described the late officer as articulate, resourceful and creative, adding that his professional qualities fostered a strong work ethic throughout his military career.

Obiakor held several strategic appointments during his service in the Nigerian Army, including Commander of 34 Artillery Brigade, Commander of 32 Field Artillery Brigade, Directing Staff at the National War College, Deputy Commandant of the Headquarters Nigeria Corps of Artillery and School, Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army, Commander of the Headquarters Nigeria Corps of Artillery, and General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army.

Soludo called on young people to draw inspiration from the late general’s career and consider military service as a noble means of contributing to national development.

The governor described Obiakor as “a proud son of Anambra and a role model for the Igbo nation,” urging youths to emulate his example by joining the Armed Forces.

Earlier, during the Service of Songs, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General O.A. Fadairo, conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army to the bereaved family.

Fadairo described Obiakor as “a gallant, disciplined, and accomplished General whose legacy will remain indelible.”

The burial attracted serving and retired military officers, government representatives and other prominent personalities from across the country.

Among those in attendance were Governor Soludo; representatives of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Army Staff; former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O.A. Ihejirika (rtd.); Corps Commander Artillery, Major General J.O. Adeyemo; Major General O.G. Onubogu; Major General O.A. Fadairo; and the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu.

Military traditions were observed during the ceremony, including the presentation of the national flag and military accoutrements to the next of kin, as well as the symbolic presentation of a condolence letter.

The Nigerian Army said the ceremony reflected its commitment to honouring officers who had served the country and to preserving their legacies for future generations.

WHEN A MARRIAGE BREAKS DOWN, CHILDREN OFTEN BEAR THE GREATEST EMOTIONAL PAIN

Published

on

NewsBreak365 | Family, Relationships & Society

A broken marriage is not just the end of a relationship between two adults. For children, it can mean a home divided, family routines disrupted, and the painful experience of watching the two people they love most go their separate ways.

When a marriage becomes troubled, the husband and wife may be consumed by anger, disappointment, betrayal, or unresolved differences. But amid these struggles, one important question is often overlooked: How are the children coping emotionally?

The Silent Victims of Marital Conflict

Children may not fully understand why their parents are fighting or separating, but they can feel the tension in the home. Constant arguments, insults, hostility, and being forced to choose sides can leave them feeling confused, insecure, anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed.

Some children may become withdrawn, struggle at school, or find it difficult to trust others. Others may hide their sadness because they do not want to upset either parent.

Not every child experiences separation in the same way. In some situations, separation may provide a safer and healthier environment, particularly where there is abuse or persistent conflict. However, the way parents handle the process can make a significant difference to their children’s well-being.

Marriage May End, but Parenthood Continues

One of the biggest mistakes separated parents can make is turning their children into weapons in their disputes.

Using children to deliver hostile messages, speaking badly about the other parent in front of them, withholding access as punishment, or demanding that they choose sides can place an unfair emotional burden on young minds.

Children need reassurance that their parents’ relationship problems are not their fault. They also need to know that they are loved and that their basic needs, routines, and emotional security will remain a priority.

Where it is safe and appropriate, parents should encourage healthy relationships with both parents, even when they can no longer live together.

Should Parents Stay Together for the Children?

This is a difficult question with no single answer.

Some people believe parents should do everything possible to save their marriages for the sake of their children. Others argue that children may be better off when parents separate rather than remain in a home filled with hostility and constant fighting.

The truth is that a peaceful separation can be healthier than a home filled with fear, hostility, and emotional conflict. Equally, a struggling marriage may sometimes improve through honest communication, counselling, and a genuine willingness to change.

The priority should not simply be whether parents remain married. It should also be whether children grow up in an environment where they feel safe, loved, respected, and emotionally supported.

Where violence or abuse is present, safety must come first.

A Message to Every Parent

Before allowing anger to determine how you treat your former partner, remember the children who are watching and listening.

Do not make them carry the weight of adult disagreements. Do not force them to become messengers, judges, or emotional support systems for their parents.

If your marriage cannot be saved, make every reasonable effort to protect your children from unnecessary conflict. Seek professional support when needed, communicate respectfully where possible, and remind your children that they are not responsible for the breakdown of the relationship.

A marriage may break, but the duty to raise emotionally healthy children remains.

NEVER CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS IF SOMEONE ELSE HAD TO SUFFER FOR IT!

Published

on

Success means little when it comes at the cost of another person’s pain.

In a world where wealth, fame, power, and social status are often celebrated as signs of achievement, one important question deserves our attention: What is the true cost of success?

Some people work hard, remain honest, and build their success through determination and integrity. Others, however, pursue their ambitions by betraying trusted friends, exploiting vulnerable people, denying others their rightful opportunities, or deliberately causing suffering to get ahead.

The troubling part is that the world may applaud the person who succeeds without ever asking who was hurt along the way.

Is Every Kind of Success Worth Celebrating?

Imagine a worker who loses a job because a colleague spreads lies to secure a promotion. Imagine a business partner who is cheated out of years of hard work while the other partner becomes wealthy. Or consider someone who destroys another person’s reputation simply to protect their own position.

The person who benefits may celebrate a new job, a bigger house, financial freedom, or public recognition. Meanwhile, the person who suffered may be left struggling to rebuild their life.

Should we celebrate the achievement without questioning the methods used to obtain it?

Success should never be measured by money and status alone. Character, fairness, honesty, and respect for others matter just as much.

You Can Succeed Without Destroying Others

There is nothing wrong with wanting to become wealthy, influential, respected, or successful. Ambition can inspire people to work harder, create opportunities, and improve their lives.

The problem begins when ambition becomes an excuse for cruelty, dishonesty, exploitation, or betrayal.

You can compete without cheating. You can rise without pushing innocent people down. You can become wealthy without taking advantage of the vulnerable. And you can achieve your dreams without deliberately destroying someone else’s.

True success is not simply about reaching the top. It is also about the values you maintain while getting there.

The Question We Must Ask Ourselves

Before celebrating an achievement, it is worth reflecting on how it was obtained. Did you treat people fairly? Did you keep your promises? Did you take advantage of someone’s trust? Did your progress depend on deliberately preventing another person from succeeding?

Nobody is perfect, and not every setback someone experiences is another person’s fault. However, deliberately causing harm for personal gain should never be treated as a badge of honour.

Your success becomes more meaningful when you can celebrate it without carrying the burden of knowing that you deliberately destroyed someone else to get there.

At NewsBreak365, we believe this is a conversation worth having because the values we celebrate help shape the society we build.

What Do You Think?

If someone betrayed you, destroyed your opportunities, or caused you serious suffering just to become successful, would you still respect that person’s achievements?

Can someone truly be considered successful if their success was built on another person’s suffering?

Share your thoughts in the comments. Let us have an honest and respectful discussion.
