The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.

The governor has equally pledged two million votes for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Abiodun made the declaration on Thursday at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, where thousands of APC supporters and members of Caucus 7202 gathered for a mega rally in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The rally attracted supporters from the 20 local government areas of the state and served as a major mobilisation platform for the APC and its support groups ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing the gathering, Abiodun said, “The large turnout demonstrated the strength, unity and grassroots reach of the APC across Ogun State.”

He added that, “The achievements of our administration over the past seven years have provided a solid foundation for our great party to seek the continued support and confidence of the electorate and residents of our dear state.

“I have no doubt in my mind that the ruling party is fully ready for the challenge of the 2027 elections.”

The governor also commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the APC’s activities and described the emergence of Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate as an important development in the political history of the state.

According to Abiodun, the unity and maturity displayed by APC members had further strengthened the party and positioned it for victory in 2027.

He expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to lead the state, citing his experience, exposure and years of public service.

Abiodun urged party members and support groups to intensify grassroots mobilisation and ensure that the APC’s message, programmes and achievements reached every ward and community across the state.

He also reaffirmed Ogun State’s commitment to delivering two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at the event, Adeola described Abiodun as a “silent achiever”, saying the governor’s seven years in office had produced significant achievements and laid a strong foundation for the state’s future development.

The APC governorship candidate pledged to build on the achievements of the present administration and sustain the state’s development trajectory if elected governor.

Adeola also dismissed reports of any political alliance between him and opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged APC members to remain vigilant and reject what he described as overtures from opposition elements.

He said the APC was fully prepared for the elections, with the structures, organisation and support base required to retain power in Ogun State.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress vice presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.

Kwankwaso made the call while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association, who paid him a visit at his Abuja residence.

He said Atiku should instead focus on his traditional responsibilities.

He also cited Atiku’s age and health as reasons for the appeal, urging supporters of the ADC candidate to convince him to step aside from the presidential contest.

The former Kano State governor stated, “Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.

“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him.”

The appeal came following moves to bring all opposition candidates under one umbrella to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In April, Atiku said the 2027 presidential election could be his final attempt, citing his age and the stakes involved.

He has contested the presidency several times, including in 2007, 2011, 2019 and 2023, losing each time.

Atiku has remained a strong advocate of restructuring, economic liberalisation and private sector-led growth.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to approve and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for all elections conducted by the commission.

The court also restrained INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of its digitally designed “two-finger” victory sign as the party’s official logo.

The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The judgment, delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, followed a suit instituted by the NDC after INEC allegedly removed the party’s modified logo from its database and replaced it with the old association logo under which it was initially registered.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with campaign materials and party symbols expected to feature prominently in the mobilisation of supporters and candidates.

In his statement, Director said the party’s first National Executive Committee meeting, held on March 25, 2026, approved the modified logo and forwarded it to INEC.

According to him, INEC initially uploaded the new logo but subsequently removed it and reinstated the old association logo without communicating any valid reason to the party.

The NDC noted that it first attempted to resolve the matter administratively but resorted to litigation after INEC failed to make the requested correction.

Delivering judgment in the suit, Justice Abdulmalik ordered INEC to approve the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for the party’s official use.

The court ordered: “That the defendant, INEC, by itself, its servants, agents, and officers howsoever, shall forthwith approve the modified logo design of the plaintiff, including its symbol and colours, which is a digitally designed ‘two-finger victory sign’ with a blue background and the word ‘NDC’ written in red on top, for use by the plaintiff, NDC as its official logo for all purposes as a political party, including for all elections conducted by the defendant INEC in Nigeria.”

The court further granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the digitally designed “two-finger” victory sign.

Reacting to the judgment, Director said the ruling had settled the dispute over the logo and directed its candidates and members to immediately adopt the approved symbol on campaign materials and other party paraphernalia.

He said, “We thank the judiciary for its timely intervention and for directing INEC to upload and utilise the NDC’s modified digital logo.

“All candidates and party members are hereby directed to adopt and use only the approved NDC logo on all campaign materials and paraphernalia, including banners, posters, and other publicity items.

“We recognise that some candidates and members may have already produced materials bearing the old logo. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. The NDC appreciates all party members and candidates for their patience and understanding during this period.

“Going forward, the NDC will intensify public sensitisation on the party’s official logo. We assure our supporters and candidates that there is nothing to worry about. We are in this together.”
