Ogun State is making headlines following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.

The agreements, signed in Paris in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, are projected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs when fully developed, according to the State House.

The proposed Gateway Deep Seaport at Ogun Waterside is planned with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, while the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone is proposed to cover 10,000 hectares. The projects are designed to support maritime trade, manufacturing, logistics, processing and exports, while potentially easing pressure on the Lagos port corridor.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has been pursuing investment and industrial development initiatives for Ogun State, and this latest agreement represents another major step in the state’s effort to attract international capital and strengthen its economic infrastructure.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after leading the Nigerian delegation at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the State House, the Vice President used his engagements at the global gathering to present Nigeria’s positions on several key issues, including UN Security Council reform, development financing, climate support, education, regional integration, economic cooperation, technology, peace and security.

During the visit, Vice President Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s National Statement at the General Debate and called for permanent African representation on the UN Security Council, alongside a fairer global financing system and stronger international cooperation.

He also participated in discussions on Africa’s mineral resources, with President Tinubu advocating for greater processing, manufacturing and value addition rather than simply exporting raw minerals.

Other engagements included discussions on education financing, meetings with Nigerians in the Diaspora, engagements with the ECOWAS Commission leadership and a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
