Peter Obi Is An Actor, I Don’t See Any Leadership In Him – Doris Ogala

Published

on

Abia State African Action Congress (AAC) Governorship candidate, Doris Ogala, has declared that she does not see leadership in former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi.

It was reports that Ogala made the statement while speaking on The Clarity Zone Podcast, where she explained her decision to reject the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate and choose the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2027 election.

She said her decision was based on her personal view of Obi and the way he conducts his political activities.

According to her, she considers many of his actions to be more like a performance than the actions of a leader.

The AAC candidate also said she was not convinced Obi was the kind of politician who could adequately protect Nigerians’ votes.

She said the ability to defend the people’s mandate was one of the qualities she expected from any politician seeking to lead the country.

She said: “I see Peter Obi as an actor. Everything he does is acting for me. I don’t see leadership in Obi. I don’t feel it. I don’t see him as someone who can defend my vote, who can protect Nigerian votes. I joined AAC because I looked at their manifesto. They believe in women inclusion, they believe in every child going to school.”

I won’t risk losing Rivers, FCT for APC presidential campaign DG job — Wike

Published

on

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained why he could not have served as Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, saying he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress and does not want to risk losing his states.

Wike spoke on Saturday after inspecting the Apo-Karshi and Kubwa-Bwari roads in Abuja, a day after the Presidency announced the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and named former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as its Director-General.

Asked whether he would have wanted to be part of the council, Wike recalled previous campaign DGs who lost their states while campaigning for their presidential candidates.

According to Vanguard, Wike said, “In 2015, the Minister of Transport was the governor of Rivers State.

“He was the DG of Muhammadu Buhari. Before you knew, I pulled the carpet off his feet. He lost. He didn’t get 25 percent.

“In 2019, he was Minister of Transport, he became the DG, and he lost his state too. Bukola Saraki was the DG of Atiku campaign in 2019. He was running around doing ‘Atikulated’.

“I called him, ‘Why are you doing Atikulated? Go home!’ He lost his state! Lost his own seat, too! In 2023, Aminu Tambuwal became DG of Atiku. He lost his state!

“In the same 2023, Lalong was the DG of APC, the present president. He lost his state!”

Wike said he was not prepared to join the list, adding that his priority was to deliver the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State rather than occupy a campaign position.

“I don’t want to lose my state! I will be in my state. I have two states: FCT and Rivers. What is important is that you are able to deliver those two states. So it is not about being DG.

“If you are DG and you don’t win your state, what is the essence of the DG?” he queried.

‘I am not a member of APC’

Wike also cited his non-membership of the APC as another reason he could not have headed the council, while maintaining that he would continue to support Tinubu’s re-election.

“I am not a member of APC. So the issue of their Presidential Campaign Council is out of the question.

“When we were fighting for the President to be president in 2023, we were not members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, but we were fighting.

“So, we had our own strategies on how the president would emerge,” he said.

Wike said his support for Tinubu’s re-election would instead operate through a cross-party “Rainbow Coalition” involving politicians backing the President in their respective states while remaining members of their political parties.

“Mind you, when we formed the Rainbow Coalition, so many parties were coming together, working together in some states to make sure that the President wins,” he said.

Wike also argued that political relevance should be judged by electoral results rather than campaign titles, saying the performance of different states would become clear after the 2027 elections.

“Nobody should use that as a yardstick to judge who will be the governor of any state. I think there is only one state that is clear that will produce a governor. It is my state. It is very clear.

“The other ones, we don’t know what will happen,” he said.

Context

For context, the Presidency on Saturday announced the composition of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, with former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator Abdulaziz Yari appointed as Director-General.

Yari subsequently accepted the appointment, pledging to begin work immediately and lead the campaign with discipline, unity and respect for Nigerians.

The document, released by the Presidency on Saturday, expands on an earlier release detailing top principal officers of the council.

As earlier reported, President Bola Tinubu will chair the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, serving as Vice Chairmen I and II respectively. Senator Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as Secretary.

The expanded list, numbering 223 entries, adds directorates covering finance, extractive industries, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, support group coordination, faith-based mobilisation, protocol, labour union relations, special duties, stakeholders’ mobilisation, community support, digital operations, grassroots engagement, and welfare.

Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was named Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation, while former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, will serve as Zonal Coordinator for stakeholders’ mobilisation in the South-West.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, and his counterpart, Ekperikpe Ekpo, were listed as deputy directors of the extractive industry sector mobilisation directorate, working alongside the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari’s predecessor’s office holder, Olu Verheijen, who was named a secretary in the same directorate.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, was named Director of Education Sector Mobilisation, while the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, will serve as his deputy.

Former Kaduna State Governor’s aide and ex-lawmaker, Shehu Sani, was listed as Deputy Director of Support Group Coordination, alongside Muri Ajaka.

The council also named separate directors for Christian and Muslim faith-based mobilisation, led by Stephen Adegbite and Sheikh Haliru Maraya respectively, along with deputies and secretaries drawn from both religious blocs.

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva’s associate and ex-Rivers lawmaker roles were not listed in this category, but the council named the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yerima Shettima, as Deputy Director of Labour Union Relations, working with veteran labour leader, Issa Aremu.

Adeleke commends Oyebamiji’s call for peace

Published

on

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in last Saturday’s poll, Bola Oyebamiji, for calling for peace in the state after visiting President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, Adeleke said Oyebamiji’s demand for peace remained “a positive tone after weeks of heated campaign and election season.”

The statement said the governor, who earlier met with Tinubu on Thursday, described the peace advocacy by the APC candidate as “a good development for the Osun people,” who experienced trauma and violence in the last two months ahead of last Saturday’s elections.

Noting the call for restraint by all political parties, the statement said the governor had reviewed the pre-election climate of fear and conflict and indicated that his team had never subscribed to violence as a weapon of political campaign, even when under severe pressure in the countdown to the poll.

Rasheed said the governor recounted the pain he went through to restrain his supporters from retaliating against attacks, adding that Accord lost 15 members, with 20 injured and scores in police detention.

“I am forever a man of peace. It is heartwarming that my brother, Oyebamiji, is also preaching peace. I assure him that my supporters have not and will not attack APC members.

“Elections have come and gone and we are all winners. The common task for us all is to sustain delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to the good people of Osun State.

“I welcome Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Bola Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to join hands with me to take Osun to greater heights. We are all important stakeholders in this Osun project,” Adeleke said.

The PUNCH reports that the incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared elected by the State Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole.

Adeleke won the governorship poll with a total of 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.
