Tinubu doesn’t deserve second term — Kwankwaso

Published

on

Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not deserve a second term, accusing it of failing to address insecurity and poverty.

Kwankwaso spoke on Friday, October 23, in Jos at a reception and village hall meeting organised by the Middle Belt Youth Council in support of the Peter Obi–Kwankwaso ticket.

He said Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, had been expected to chair the event but could not attend because of circumstances beyond his control in Enugu. According to Kwankwaso, they agreed to arrange another visit to address supporters together.

He described their partnership as a balanced ticket intended to promote unity across Nigeria and said they were combining their policy proposals for the country. “Together, we are going to fight insecurity, poverty and illiteracy, and invest in agriculture and education,” he said. Kwankwaso pledged to expand educational opportunities, arguing that every Nigerian child should have access to school.

He cited his record in Kano and Obi’s administration in Anambra as evidence of their commitment to education. Drawing on his experience as governor and defence minister, Kwankwaso identified poverty, illiteracy and limited employment opportunities as major national challenges.

He lamented the decline of factories and industries, saying the loss of productive businesses had reduced opportunities for men and women to earn a living. Kwankwaso also criticised the continuing loss of lives to banditry, insurgency and communal clashes, calling for leadership that would protect citizens regardless of religion, ethnicity or region.

“We must have leaders who are ready to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of this country and that is embedded in our Constitution,” he said. “Any government that cannot do that, we cannot call that government a responsible government and that government does not deserve a second term.”

He urged Plateau residents to vote for the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket and other NDC candidates, and to help safeguard their votes through the electoral process. Kwankwaso recalled Obi’s victory in Plateau during the 2023 presidential election and said cooperation between the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements would strengthen their support in the state.

Supporting Tinubu’s re-election could pave way for Igbo presidency – Gov Soludo

Published

on

The governor of Anambra state, Charles Soludo, says supporting President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid could pave the way for an Igbo presidency in the future.

While speaking at a function recently, Soludo, who spoke in Igbo, said backing Tinubu in the 2027 election could encourage other regions to support an Igbo presidential candidate when power returns to the south.

He said the south-east should support the incumbent southern president, noting that power would shift to the north after Tinubu’s tenure before eventually returning to the south.

“You have to engage in discussions. Now that it is a Southerner holding the power, it’s remaining four years. It is now left for us (Igbos) to support him so that when it goes to the North and comes back, we can now trust that every southerner and northerner will support us,” he said

The governor said political power should rotate among different groups, adding that he had no intention of seeking a third term.

“What am I vying for? I’ve gotten a governorship position; will I go for a third term? Everyone must be given the opportunity to be able to rise,” he said.

David Umahi reveals Peter Obi can never be South-East’s best, read details

Published

on

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said Peter Obi “can never be the best” presidential candidate from the South-East, defending political leaders from the region who support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi made the remarks in a Friday interview with ARISE News , arguing that Obi failed to adequately consult political leaders in the region before his presidential bid in the 2023 election.

“Peter Obi is not the best of our finest in South East. He’s not the best, he can never be the best,” Umahi said.

The former Ebonyi State governor said a presidential aspirant seeking to represent the South-East should consult governors and other political stakeholders in the region before pursuing the ambition.

“You cannot play politics in South East without consulting people like us,” he said.

Umahi said he would have consulted political leaders in the region if he had sought the presidency, arguing that an ambition carrying the expectations of an entire region should not be pursued in isolation.

“If I were contesting, I would have consulted,” he said.

He maintained that the South-East had other qualified political figures who could aspire to the presidency and challenged the suggestion that Obi should automatically be regarded as the region’s strongest candidate because of his performance in the 2023 election.

Umahi also questioned the argument that the presidency should automatically go to Anambra State if the South-East had an opportunity to produce Nigeria’s president.

He noted that Nigeria’s first President, Nnamdi Azikiwe, came from the area now constituting Anambra State, arguing that other states in the region should also be considered.

Umahi identified Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and Imo as states that should have opportunities in any future discussions about producing a president from the South-East.

The minister’s comments came as he defended political leaders in the region who support Tinubu rather than Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi argued that the South-East’s path to the presidency depended on political negotiation and alliances with other parts of the country rather than support for a particular candidate being treated as a test of loyalty to the region.

He also rejected criticism of South-East political figures backing Tinubu, saying it was wrong to portray them as betraying the region because of their political choices.

The minister maintained that the region needed to build alliances across Nigeria if it wanted to produce a president, insisting that no single politician should be treated as its only viable presidential option.

Recall that in September, PUNCH Online had earlier reported that Umahi, speaking in Benin City, challenged comparisons with Peter Obi, saying he saw no area in which the former Anambra governor was superior to him.

He also said the South-East would eventually produce Nigeria’s president but insisted that “it is not yet our turn.”
