The Commandant of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant AS Apollos Dandaura, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 said the criminal elements disguised themselves as illegal miners and charcoal vendors to kidnap innocent people in Okpella.

“Following the directive of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni. OFR, on an aggressive onslaught against unscrupulous elements terrorizing the peace of Edo State and those culpable for the massacre of 8 personnel attached to BUA Cement Company last month,” he said.

“The CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, led by Commandant Dandaura, collaborated with the men of the Nigerian Army and the General Manager of BUA International Cement, Mr. Richard Gidado, to launch an aggressive onslaught against the crime perpetrators.”

“During the clearance operation, the team uncovered and dismantled some criminal hideouts used for housing kidnapped victims, though some of the kidnappers maneuvered outside the area, giving room for the rescuing of victims and one Mrs. Agbe Matar, who had been in captivity for over 7 days.”

One of the rescued victims, Mrs Agbe Martha narrated how she was kidnapped alongside her sister while working on their farmland in the Ichoke area of the Itsukwi community in Etsako East LGA of Edo State.

According to her, over 5 armed men stormed their rice plantation looking like herders and held her and her sister-in-law hostage while her husband, Paschal Agbe, escaped.

Mrs Agbe relayed that upon their arrival at the kidnappers’ den, they were subjected to severe torture and manhandling by the kidnappers, who later demanded a 30 million Naira ransom before they could be released.

As the CG’s SIS Commandant and his men reunited Mrs Martha Agbe and other victims with their families, the paramount ruler, His Royal Highness Usman Suleiman, the Ogei-Ochi III of Itsukwi Kingdom, lauded the pragmatic leadership of the NSCDC Commandant General for bringing hope and peace back to the area.

In his response, Commandant Dandaura noted that collaborative efforts in dismantling the kidnap syndicate and their criminal hideouts in the area underscore the CG’s commitment to combating crime and criminalities as well as ensuring the protection of lives and property of citizens in Edo state and, by extension, the nation at large.

He added that further investigation and diligent prosecution would be carried out in due course.

The judgment was delivered on Thursday, October 16, 2025 by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of High Court No. 15 in Kano

The two convicts, Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma, were found guilty of k!lling Yalwa, at Danbare area in Kano metropolis.

The prosecution led by government counsel, Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, presented six witnesses and other evidence to prove the case.

In his judgment, Justice Ma’aji ruled that the prosecution had successfully established the murder charge against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

“The prosecution counsel, Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, presented strong and convincing evidence which proved the murder charge against the two defendants,” the judge said.

The incident reportedly happened in 2018. The late Abba Aminu Yalwa had earlier given money to Sagiru Lawan, but later demanded a refund.

Sagiru then asked the deceased to meet him at Danbare so he could show him a piece of land for sale. When they arrived, Sagiru called his friend Kabiru Alaramma, and together they strangled Abba and st@bbed him to d3ath.

After reviewing all testimonies and evidence, Justice Ma’aji found both men guilty of m8rder in violation of Section 221 (B) of the Penal Code, which carries a d3ath sentence.

He, therefore, sentenced Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma to d3ath by hanging.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has condemned the act of jungle justice by a mob that assaulted a young lady accused of stealing a two-year-old child in Giri-Kpasere in the Gwagwalada Area Council.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was b£aten and partially str!pped by a mob for allegedly attempting to steal the child.

A resident of Giri-Kpasere, Danlami Habila, who spoke to Daily Trust on Thursday said the incident happened on Saturday, October 11, around 5:12 pm.

According to him, the lady, who was wearing a shirt and jeans trousers, was caught by the roadside with a crying child, waiting to board a vehicle.

Habila added that some passersby who identified the child became suspicious.

He explained that one of the passersby suddenly stopped after discovering the child was crying. The man called the child’s name, and the child immediately responded.

Habila said that, at that moment, the lady immediately placed the child on her back and covered him with a wrapper/cloth, a situation which prompted the man to begin questioning the lady about how she came to have the child.

“So, as the man who identified the child now called the child’s name and he answered, the child started crying, which prompted the man to suspect that the lady must have stolen the child, and she was arrested on the spot,” he said.

He said after the man raised an alarm, the attention of some youth around the area was attracted. They immediately started b3ating the suspect and almost str!pped her completely n@ked.

“In fact, there were some people who first saw the lady walking with the child and making frantic phone calls by the roadside, trying to stop a vehicle, but as nemesis would have it, she could not get a vehicle,” he added.

Habila said that some residents who rushed to the scene also identified the child and immediately alerted the child’s mother, who later arrived at the scene.

According to him, the child was immediately retrieved from the lady, after which the mob continued to beat her.

He added that some elders of the community who got wind of the incident quickly rushed to the scene and rescued the lady.

He said the lady was later handed over to the police in the area.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the suspect, who was being severely beaten by the crowd, was promptly rescued by police patrol officers from Tungan Maje Division to prevent further escalation.

She, however, disclosed that the command has commenced a discreet investigation into the alleged child theft and will ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

Adeh further warned that the police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in mob attacks, noting that such actions undermine the rule of law and ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security in the FCT.
