The Niger State Police Command has arrested several suspects in separate raids across the state as part of its effort to tackle thuggery, robbery, and other crimes.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests were made in coordinated operations in Kontagora, Minna, and Bida between October 21 and 23, 2025.
Abiodun said, “In continuation of the command’s clampdown on thuggery and other vices in the state, on 23rd October 2025 at about 2.30 p.m., police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Kontagora, conducted a sting operation at Tudun-Wada area of Kontagora and three suspects were arrested.”
He named the suspects as 22-year-old Abdullahi Abdullahi, 19-year-old Fahad Abubakar, and 28-year-old Nasiru Aliyu, all of Tudun-Wada.
He said they were found in possession of “a large quantity of suspected cannabis, two knives, and a pair of military trousers.”
Abiodun added that investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the illicit substances and whether the suspects belong to any wider criminal group.
He said the command also carried out a series of raids in Minna between October 21 and 23, 2025, targeting known criminal hideouts in Angwan-Sarki, Kuta Road, Sabon-Gari, Ogbomosho area, Baida, and parts of Makera.
During the operation, the police arrested 28-year-old Hamza Dauda, 25-year-old Hussain Sanda, 22-year-old Sani Hassan, 25-year-old Danlami Garba, 19-year-old Saidu Hassan, 21-year-old Musa Umar, and 25-year-old Hassan Usman.
“They were also arrested with suspected cannabis, shisha pots and pipes, and other illicit substances,” the statement read.
Abiodun confirmed that all seven suspects had been charged to court on October 24, 2025.
In another operation, Abiodun said two robbery suspects, 25-year-old Aliyu Salihu and 22-year-old Jibrin Ndako, both of Barkin-Saleh, Minna, were arrested at Tungan-Shanu area of Maje while attempting to flee from Bida after a robbery.
“On October 22, 2025 at about 6.45 p.m., police operatives attached to Maje Division intercepted and arrested two suspects with a white unregistered Lucky motorcycle,” Abiodun said.
He explained that investigations revealed the suspects had earlier robbed a student in Bida at about 2.30 a.m., dispossessing him of the motorcycle, four handsets, and ₦40,000.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and said that they were escaping to Kogi State before the arrest,” Abiodun added.
Abiodunstated that items recovered from the suspects included “the motorcycle, four handsets, two ATM cards, and a sum of ₦7,000 remaining from the ₦40,000 robbed.”
He noted that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, for further investigation.
Abiodun reaffirmed the command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements, urging residents to continue to provide credible information that would aid the police in curbing crime and maintaining public safety.
