Senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim, has urged Nigerians to unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s economic and security reform agenda, describing the administration’s ongoing efforts as crucial to the nation’s stability and long-term development.
In a statement issued on Friday, the senator said the President’s policies on economic restructuring and national security require the collective commitment of citizens if they are to achieve their intended impact.
Drawing from global military history, Ibrahim noted that the United States has undertaken 469 military interventions since 1798, including 251 between 1991 and the present, to underscore the importance of strategic action in safeguarding national interests.
“No nation enjoys absolute sovereignty. From pandemics to cross-border threats, global challenges demand collaboration and vigilance,” he said, commending Tinubu for taking proactive steps to secure Nigeria’s borders while simultaneously working to stimulate economic growth.
“The President’s vision ensures security, economic expansion, and opportunities for all. Love for our country must guide us through these defining moments,” he added.
Ibrahim further urged Nigerians to rally behind the administration, insisting that patriotism and unity remain vital ingredients for sustainable development, improved security, and Nigeria’s growing influence on the global stage.
“With shared determination and support for ongoing reforms, the country is well-positioned to strengthen its security architecture, grow its economy, and assert itself as a formidable force in world affairs,” he said.
PUNCH Online reports that Tinubu’s administration has embarked on sweeping economic and security reforms since assuming office in May 2023.
Key among these measures are the removal of petrol subsidy, unification of the exchange rate, renewed efforts to attract foreign investment, and the ongoing overhaul of the security apparatus to combat banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities.
While the reforms have sparked nationwide debate over short-term hardship, the government insists they are necessary to stabilise the economy and reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth.
Several political leaders, including Ibrahim, have publicly defended the reforms, calling for patience and collective support as the policies continue to unfold.
