Impeachment: Wike Maintains Silence As Tinubu, APC Leaders Resolve To Save Fubara

Published

on

President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly resolved to save the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following the impeachment proceedings initiated against him and the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, by the House of Assembly.

It was learnt that while Fubara, who is reportedly out of the country, has yet to be served with the impeachment notice and he has the backing of power brokers and APC leaders to retain his seat.

Multiple sources who spoke to Vanguard stated that the recent comments by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, commending Fubara and recognising him as the leader of the party in Rivers, capture the mood of critical power brokers in the presidency.

Those said to be favourably disposed to Fubara include the Imo State Governor and chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma and Transport Minister, Senator Dave Umahi.

Also, the Pan-Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), the apex socio-political body of the South-South geopolitical zone, was among the critical stakeholders who waded into the matter.

Rivers State Elder and chieftain of the PANDEF, Anabs Sara-Igbe, in an interview with Vanguard, called on President Tinubu to save the state from unnecessary tension arising from the third attempt by the legislators to remove Governor Fubara and his deputy from office.

Wike Shuns Comment On Fubara’s Impeachment

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has maintained a loud silence as the presidency, APC leaders and stakeholders weigh in to resolve the reignited political crisis following the commencement of impeachment proceedings against Fubara.

Prior to the latest impeachment threat by the lawmakers who are largely Wike’s loyalists, the former Governor of Rivers State was always seen dancing, singing and using every political gathering to criticise Fubara.

However, Wike, who shunned comments on the impeachment proceedings, appeared sober when his “thank you” train landed in Andoni LGA of the state on Friday.

Unlike Wike, the minister, who did not spend more than five minutes addressing the huge crowd that came out to welcome him, and did not speak publicly on the impeachment move.

2027: Defend your achievements in live debate – Utomi dares Tinubu

Published

on

A Professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to defend the record of his administration in a live presidential debate ahead of the 2027 general election.

Utomi threw the challenge while speaking on the state of the nation and the need for accountability.

“Defend your record in a live presidential debate,” Utomi said.

According to him, Nigerians deserve to hear directly from the President on the economy, insecurity and governance, not through spokespersons.

He said a live debate would allow citizens to assess the performance of the Tinubu administration and compare ideas for the future.

Utomi insisted that any leader seeking re-election must be bold enough to subject himself to public scrutiny.

The Presidency is yet to respond to the challenge at the time of filing this report.

Tinubu doesn’t deserve second term — Kwankwaso

Published

on

Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not deserve a second term, accusing it of failing to address insecurity and poverty.

Kwankwaso spoke on Friday, October 23, in Jos at a reception and village hall meeting organised by the Middle Belt Youth Council in support of the Peter Obi–Kwankwaso ticket.

He said Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, had been expected to chair the event but could not attend because of circumstances beyond his control in Enugu. According to Kwankwaso, they agreed to arrange another visit to address supporters together.

He described their partnership as a balanced ticket intended to promote unity across Nigeria and said they were combining their policy proposals for the country. “Together, we are going to fight insecurity, poverty and illiteracy, and invest in agriculture and education,” he said. Kwankwaso pledged to expand educational opportunities, arguing that every Nigerian child should have access to school.

He cited his record in Kano and Obi’s administration in Anambra as evidence of their commitment to education. Drawing on his experience as governor and defence minister, Kwankwaso identified poverty, illiteracy and limited employment opportunities as major national challenges.

He lamented the decline of factories and industries, saying the loss of productive businesses had reduced opportunities for men and women to earn a living. Kwankwaso also criticised the continuing loss of lives to banditry, insurgency and communal clashes, calling for leadership that would protect citizens regardless of religion, ethnicity or region.

“We must have leaders who are ready to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of this country and that is embedded in our Constitution,” he said. “Any government that cannot do that, we cannot call that government a responsible government and that government does not deserve a second term.”

He urged Plateau residents to vote for the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket and other NDC candidates, and to help safeguard their votes through the electoral process. Kwankwaso recalled Obi’s victory in Plateau during the 2023 presidential election and said cooperation between the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements would strengthen their support in the state.
