Operation Safe Have arrests fraudster for impersonating its personnel to collect N400k from family of notorious gunrunner

Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has arrested one Mr Musa Ali, for impersonating as a personnel of OPSH with intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Major Media Information Officer of OPSH, Major Samson Nantip, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 9, 2025 said the suspect fraudulently presented himself as a serving member of OPSH and deceitfully collected the sum of Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000.00) from the family of a notorious gunrunner currently undergoing investigation.

“Mr Ali falsely claimed that he could stop the ongoing investigations and secure the suspect’s release from custody before his fraudulent scheme was promptly uncovered by operatives of OPSH leading to his arrest,” the statement read.

“OPSH wishes to categorically state that it does not, under any circumstances, collect money or other gratification to release suspects or halt investigations.

“All suspects arrested by OPSH are diligently investigated in line with established legal procedures with the ultimate aim of ensuring justice and maintaining peace across the Joint Operations Area.

“Therefore, the arrest of Mr Musa Ali underscores OPSH’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, transparency and zero tolerance for corruption.

“We assure the public that the suspect will be diligently prosecuted upon completion of investigations.

“We, therefore, urge members of the public to be vigilant and wary of fraudsters who may attempt to exploit their circumstances by making false claims of influence over OPSH’s investigative activities.

“The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals impersonating security personnel through OPSH’s toll-free line 08000020203 or by visiting Headquarters OPSH around Hill Station Roundabout in Jos.

“OPSH reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and property, promoting peace and upholding the highest standards of integrity.

“It is also expedient to state that OPSH in conjunction with other security agencies on the plateau will continue to work tirelessly with stakeholders and law-abiding citizens to rid the JOA of criminalities.”

The Police and Journalists in Kogi partner to tackle crime

The Nigeria Police Force, Kogi Command, and the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists have pledged commitment to strengthening existing police, media relations to foster stronger collaboration and enhance accurate reporting of police activities.

This was disclosed during an engagement between the Commissioner of Police, Kogi Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, and the Correspondents’ Chapel led by its Chairman, Mr. Segun Salami, at the command’s headquarters in Lokoja on Wednesday.

In his remarks, the CP commended the media for its role in shaping public perception and ensuring accountability.

He urged them to remain professional in their duties, noting that their role is critical in building a safer Kogi State.

The CP assured them of the command’s open-door policy and accessibility, while urging journalists to maintain professionalism in their reports and promote harmony in the state.

He reiterated his unwavering commitment to strengthening the relationship between the police and media in the area of information sharing.

“I urge you to sharpen your power of observation and report any suspicious activities and movement for prompt action, adding that security is a collective responsibility and all hands must be on deck if we must achieve a safe and secure society,” he said.

He further emphasised the need for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, and other stakeholders, stressing that “effective media relations are vital for the command to maintain a positive image, secure public support, and showcase its achievements.”

The CP outlined notable achievements since he assumed office, including the arrest of 582 suspects comprising 157 kidnappers, 192 armed robbers, 28 homicide suspects, 38 for unlawful possession of firearms, 7 for rape, 6 cultists, and 168 others. Other successes include the dismantling of criminal networks and the rescue of kidnapped victims.

Firearms recovered include eight AK-47 rifles, one AK-49, seven locally made pistols, 11 Dane guns, 407 rounds of live ammunition, 10 magazines, a Beretta pistol, seven live cartridges, one Sharon car, and two Bajaj motorcycles.

He assured all that the command is ever determined to sustain collaboration with the chapel, stressing that such a partnership is vital for enhancing accurate reporting of incidents in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr. Segun Salami, commended the leadership style of the Commissioner of Police, noting that the engagement will foster a stronger working relationship between the police and the media, build mutual trust, strengthen security–media relations, and promote societal harmony.

He further disclosed that the chapel remains committed to supporting the efforts of the police in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

He stressed that the engagement offered an opportunity for the chapel to strengthen its level of collaboration with the command, ensuring accurate reporting of police activities and incidents.

PHOTOS: Bandits k!ll worshiper, abduct others in Sokoto mosque

Armed bandits attacked a mosque in Marnona village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, k!lling one worshiper and abducting several others, during morning prayers.

It was gathered that the attackers, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the mosque in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025. and opened fire indiscriminately on worshipers, sending the community into panic.

The victim identified as Alhaji Shu’aibu Marnona was laid to rest on Monday.

The Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Isah Achida, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

He condemned the assault, describing it as “barbaric” and “an act of cowardice.

“Targeting innocent worshipers in a sacred place is a direct attack on our humanity and our faith. The perpetrators must be brought to justice, and our people must remain united to defeat this menace,” Achida said.

Achida assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working to curb banditry across Sokoto, while expressing sympathy to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.

Security sources believe the assailants may have come from camps hidden in the forests bordering Sokoto and Zamfara states, notorious for harbouring armed groups.

The attackers fled before security operatives arrived at the scene.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the command has launched an investigation and will issue a detailed statement soon.

PHOTOS: EFCC commences investigation of traveller over undeclared $59,000 at Lagos airport

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation of one Duru Ikechukwu Damian arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, for allegedly failing to declare the sum of $59,000 (Fifty Nine Thousand United States Dollars).

Damian was intercepted by operatives of the NCS during a routine check at the AML/ CFT Currency Declaration Desk on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

Upon his arrest, the suspect, who was scheduled to travel on Emirates Airline to Dubai, claimed he had only $10,000 (Ten Thousand Dollars) on him.

However, when a search was conducted on him, a sum of $49,000 was discovered undeclared, totalling $59,000.

During the handing over to the EFCC on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Area Comptroller in charge of the NCS at the Airport , E. I. Harrison said: “Today, we are having a process that we have been doing over a period of time now. When we intercept currencies, we do the needful of handing over to the appropriate agencies of government.

“We have carried out sensitization and we have had public announcements… Presently, at the airport, announcements are being made, at intervals, on the need for travellers to declare their currencies or equivalents. Also, the electronic signages in the halls display these messages. Yet, at intervals, we also have people who fail to adhere to the extant laws and regulations…”, he said.

While receiving the suspect, the acting Zonal Director, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Ahmed Ghali, said: “We are here to take over one of the recalcitrant Nigerians who do not want to abide with the law in relation to money laundering. But we will not relent in enforcing the law. All that we are saying is that laws are meant to be obeyed. So, we will always do our best, in line with our mandate, to ensure that any individual who violates the law does not go scot‑free.”
