Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the safe rescue of the teachers and pupils held captive by bandits for 56 days is a moment of gratitude and relief for the state.

The governor said the rescued pupils and teachers would remain under observation for 48 hours.

“The rescued victims will remain under medical observation for the next 48 hours, after which an assessment will be conducted before their formal transfer from military authorities to the Oyo State Government for further management and rehabilitation,” he said.

The governor spoke on Saturday after visiting the rescued pupils and teachers, who are receiving medical attention at the Headquarters of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following their release from captivity.

“All 39 pupils and five of the seven abducted teachers had been rescued and reunited with security personnel, giving glory to God and commending officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their efforts in securing the victims’ freedom,” the governor said.

“The rescue operation came with sacrifices,” Makinde added, revealing that, “some security operatives lost their lives during the operation.”

The governor extended condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that the sacrifices of their loved ones would not be in vain.

Speaking on the condition of the rescued victims, the governor disclosed that the pupils and teachers were happy to regain their freedom. “Some of them appear physically weak, and will require medical care and psychosocial support to overcome post-traumatic experiences from their prolonged captivity,” he said.

Makinde also disclosed that arrangements were being made to bring family members to the barracks to see their loved ones, particularly noting the case of a young girl who had repeatedly asked for her mother since regaining her freedom.

He urged Nigerians to remain united in the face of security challenges, stressing that, “difficult periods should serve as moments for collective action rather than division.”

Makinde added that he would officially brief the people of Oyo State and Nigerians in the coming week on the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the efforts that culminated in the successful rescue of the victims.

You Asked Governors To Buy Cars For APC Women – Fayose Knocks Remi Tinubu Over Advice To Davido, Asake

Published

on

The younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Isaac, has disagreed with the First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, over her statement advising rich Nigerian artistes to help the poor in the nation.

It was reports that Tinubu had called on prominent Nigerian entertainers to establish foundations and use part of their earnings to assist vulnerable citizens.

She cited Senegalese-American singer Akon as an example of a successful entertainer involved in charity work.

Tinubu said, “I want to appeal to our young ones in the entertainment industry. I have mentioned it before, and I will use Akon, a music icon who does a lot of great charity work.

However, speaking on his 𝕏 account, Fayose questioned why the First Lady had previously asked state governors to buy brand-new cars for the All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders in their states, arguing that the money could have been used to help the poor.

Fayose said, “I saw a video of Remi Tinubu advising Davido, Burna Boy and Asake to use their music money for charity.

“I disagree with you, ma. You’re the one who asked state governors to buy brand-new cars for APC women leaders in their states. That money could have been used to help people, too.”

Trump Ally, US Senator Lindsey Graham Dies

Published

on

Prominent United States Senator Lindsey Graham, a longtime Republican lawmaker and close ally of President Donald Trump, has died at the age of 71 following a brief and sudden illness.

His office announced his death in a statement posted on its official X account early Sunday.

“On the evening of Saturday, July 11, US Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” the statement read.

It added that Graham’s family “appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”

Graham began his career in the US Congress after winning election to the House of Representatives in 1994, where he represented South Carolina.

He was elected to the United States Senate in 2002 and went on to become one of the Republican Party’s most influential lawmakers.

During his time in the Senate, Graham served on several key committees and was widely recognised for his strong views on national security, foreign policy and defence.

Although Graham was an outspoken critic of Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, the two later developed a close political relationship.

He became one of Trump’s most trusted allies in the Senate, frequently defending the administration’s policies and playing a prominent role in debates on judicial appointments, immigration and foreign affairs.

In recent years, Graham remained one of the most influential Republican voices on issues involving Ukraine, Israel and US military engagement overseas.
