Northern Youths Reject PDP’s Zoning Of 2027 Ticket To South

Published

on

The Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACON) has condemned the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, warning that the move amounted to “political marginalisation” of the North.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday, the group cautioned that the decision could have “grave consequences” for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections.

It was recalls that the PDP’s National Executive Committee, at its 102nd meeting in Abuja on Monday, resolved that the party’s next presidential candidate should emerge from the South.

But JACON argued that the decision was unjust, stressing that despite being the “backbone” of PDP’s electoral victories since 1999, the North had been denied equitable access to the presidency under the party.

Reading from the text of the press conference, Ambassador Sani Yaya, JACON’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, said, “It is an undeniable historical fact that the North was short-changed during PDP’s 16 years in power. While the South dominated the presidency for over a decade, the North barely had two and a half years. To now zone the ticket back to the South in 2027 is a deliberate attempt to permanently sideline the region.”

The group insisted that fairness and equity demanded that the party return its ticket to the North in 2027.

JACON further warned that the North would no longer serve as the “political beast of burden” for a party that relied on its votes but denied it leadership.

“The North can no longer continue to be the political beast of burden for a party that only uses its votes but denies it leadership. If this injustice is not corrected, we will mobilise our entire structures to respond appropriately at the polls,” the statement read.

The group announced plans to convene an emergency meeting of its affiliate bodies to deliberate on a “comprehensive strategy” against the PDP’s zoning formula.

It also urged Northern political, traditional, and religious leaders to resist what it called a “brazen act of exclusion,” stressing, “The time for acquiescence is over.”

‘Stop Deceiving Nigerians, Possible Candidacy Of Peter Obi, Jonathan, Seyi Makinde Are Lies’ – Dele Momodu Blasts PDP

Published

on

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has effectively surrendered its structures to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

It was reports that Momodu made this known while condemning the party over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, describing it as “the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy.”

In a post via his Instagram page on Tuesday, Momodu directly linked the zoning move to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, saying, “No Jupiter will stop Wike from using PDP structures for Tinubu. That’s already a done deal.”

The veteran journalist accused the PDP of “shooting itself in the leg” by bowing to what he called “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures secretly working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also urged the PDP to stop deceiving Nigerians, stressing that speculations about the possible candidacy of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde are blatant lies from the pit of hell.

He wrote: “Yesterday, one of Africa’s biggest, but seriously embattled, political parties shot itself in the leg by choosing to hide behind one finger. The PDP finally succumbed to the cheap and puerile blackmail of the black sheep in the opposition party who are openly and daringly working for the ruling party.

“The shame of it was seeing the so-called seasoned politicians engage in self-adulation for taking the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy, by zoning the 2027 presidential candidacy to Southern Nigeria.

“Who did not know that ultimately the hand was that of Wike while the voice was that of Tinubu. Their gameplan is not hidden. Wike keeps belching orders at helpless governors who are too jittery to stand firm against daredevil dictatorship. They could not even rescue one of their prominent members in Rivers State, SIM FUBARA, when his boat of governance capsized. The same man that threw out zoning in 2022, and even lobbied to be Vice President of a Northern candidate, is the one now crying loudest that power must be ceded to the South in 2027.

“The geniuses should be courageous enough to admit that Tinubu will be the joint candidate of APC and PDP in 2027. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Give it to Wike, love him or loathe him, you will always know where he stands, no matter how preposterous and ludicrous.

“No Jupiter will stop Wike from using PDP structures for Tinubu. That’s already a done deal. Let PDP stop deceiving Nigerians that it will field a Southern candidate against Tinubu. Speculations about the possible candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde are blatant lies from the pit of hell.”

Dele Moodu also accused the PDP of hypocrisy, recalling past political precedents: “What is more, the hypocrisy behind the reason for zoning power to the South stinks to high heavens. Where were these guys when President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died and no one fought for his replacement from the North after Jonathan completed their first term? In fact, Jonathan would have spent 9 years as President but for his defeat by Buhari in 2015. Where were they when Tinubu ran on a Muslim/Muslim ticket? The questions can continue ad infinitum!! TRUTH must not be selective.”

Why I’m Very Satisfied With PDP Zoning Of Presidential Ticket To South – Bala Mohammed

Published

on

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed satisfaction with the zoning of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to the South.

It was reports that Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, during an interview with journalists on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, said he was part of the decision-making process regarding the zoning.

Mohammed said he is satisfied because the decision to zone the party’s ticket to the South allows PDP to have some sanity, understanding, and unity.

According to the Governor, he gave up his ambition to allow the PDP zone its presidential ticket to the South, adding that politics is not about personal interest, but self-actualisation within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development.

He said, “I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it, from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery.

“It’s an all inclusive decision for us to have our NEC in Ibadan, Oyo State and sustain the existing zoning formula in the party offices and to zone the presidential office to the South South so that we can have some sanity, understanding, and unity.

“I’m calling on Nigerians to know that politics is not about personal interest, it’s about self actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development.

“Everything is predicated on sacrifice, not interest, and of course, we must always give allowance, respect each other, and power comes from God.

“So we are always available as governors, NWC, BoT to work towards making sure that PDP is a darling of Nigerians so that we can give everyone the political space or allowances to come and actualize their aspirations.”

Zoning Your Ticket To South May Push North To Support Tinubu – AYCF Warns PDP

Published

on

The National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima has condemned the move by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the south.

It was reports that the National Executive Committee of the party, at its 102nd meeting on Monday, zoned the presidential ticket to the South, while retaining the current National Working Committee headed by Ambassador Umar Damagum.

Speaking on the development during an interview with Punch, Shettima, stated that the PDP’s decision to zone its ticket has raised many questions that require answers.

“By preemptively zoning the presidential ticket to the South, the PDP appears to be constraining fundamental rights, effectively sidelining potential candidates from the North who may possess the requisite qualifications and vision to lead the country. This decision not only diminishes the political strength of Northern voters but also risks alienating a significant portion of the electorate who may feel that their choices are being dictated by party machinations rather than genuine democratic processes.” he said.

Speaking further he said, “As the APC prepares to nominate President Tinubu for re-election, the implications of the PDP’s zoning decision become even more pronounced. Tinubu, a seasoned politician with considerable influence and a well-established political network, is likely to leverage his incumbency and the support of the APC to solidify his position. In this context, the North may find itself in a unique position, one that could lead to a strategic consensus in favour of Tinubu rather than the PDP.

“The northern political landscape is characterised by a complex interplay of ethnic, religious, and regional interests. Historically, Northern leaders have often prioritised unity and consensus-building as a means of navigating Nigeria’s diverse political terrain. However, the PDP’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South could inadvertently galvanise northern political actors to consolidate their support around Tinubu.

“The North, recognising the potential risks of a divided political front, may opt to rally behind the incumbent, particularly if they perceive that the PDP’s choice is exclusionary and undermines their representation.

“The North’s support for Tinubu could be further reinforced by the perception that the PDP’s zoning strategy is not only politically motivated but also detrimental to the principles of democracy. In this light, Northern leaders may view their alignment with the APC as a means of safeguarding democratic ideals by promoting a candidate who, despite his Southern roots, has demonstrated an understanding of the complexities of Nigerian governance and has the potential to address the diverse needs of the nation,” he added.
