Politician and APC chieftain, Adamu Garba, says the biggest beneficiary of the return to Democracy in Nigeria is the South West.
In a post shared on X, Adamu examined all the regions that have had a go at the Presidency and Vice Presidency and according to him, the South West and the North West are the beneficiaries.
He went on tio state that the South East and the North East have had zero representatives occupy the number one and two positions, He asked if this can be corrected as Nigeria heads to the polls in 2027. His post reads
‘’Current Discussion and Permutations within the Political Elites in Nigeria. North-South Presidency. By 2027:
1. The South would have had 18 years of Presidency of Nigeria since 1999
2. The North would have had 10 years.
For VP.
1. The North would have had 18 years on a VP slot while the South would have had 10 years.
Deep dive into the regions.Nigerian fashion trends
South:
1. South West would have had 12 years of Presidency
2. South South would have had 6 years of Presidency
3. South East would have 0 years of the Presidency.
North:
4. North West would have had 10 years of Presidency
5. North East would have had 0 years of Presidency
6. North Central would have had 0 years of Presidency.
For VP slot:
South:
1. South West would have had 8 years of VP
2. South South would have had 2 years of VP
3. South East would have had 0 years of VP.
North:
4. North West would have had 6 years of VP
5. North East would have had 12 years of VP
6. North Central would have had 0 years of VP.
Thus, the biggest beneficiaries of the Fourth Republic are the South West. They would have had 12 years of Presidency and 8 years of VP from the entire Southern Slot.
The second beneficiaries are the North West, with 8 years of Presidency and 6 years of VP slot, from the entire Northern slot.
Then the South South with 6 years Presidency and 2 years VP.
Then the North East with 12 years of VP.
Meanwhile, the regions less fortunate are the South East and North Central, both with 0 years of Presidency and VP.
A lot of questions are currently being asked: When south is mentioned in political equations, where is south really? Are all south onboard with the current arrangement?
Also the North, where is North really? are all north onboard with the current northern arrangement?
When the two whole zones have zero participation in the whole system, can the current arrangement be truly inclusive?
Is there a better way to evolve a new structure as we approach the 2027 election where regions hitherto excluded can find a better position at the table?
Yes, democracy is a game of numbers, but would inclusivity become a centerpiece in the name of national unity and cohesiveness?
More questions than answers. We shall see how it goes.
