Did Goodluck Jonathan Arrest You? – Isaac Fayose Blasts Tinubu Over Sowore’s Arrest

Published

on

The brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Isaac, has berated President Bola Tinubu over the arrest of Human Rights Activist, Omoyele Sowore.

It was  reports that Sowore was arrested on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, shortly after he appeared in solidarity with the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking in an interview with News Central on Thursday, Fayose expressed disappointment over Sowre’s detention and accused Tinubu of attempting to silence critics.

According to him, Sowore had been advocating for the welfare of police officers, including their pension and gratuity, yet the same security agents were being used to arrest him.

Fayose further stated that former President, Goodluck Jonathan, allowed Tinubu to protest freely and questioned why the president is harming Nigerians during protests.

He said, “No, you see the police and the law enforcement agents we have now are cash and carry. They can carry me tomorrow, I don’t care, because they are suffering. Someone is fighting for you to be a better person, to get your pension, to demand your rights, and yet you are still serving your slave masters.

“Abroad, protests are peaceful. Why all the barricades, the shootings, and intimidation here? Millions of Nigerians share Sowore’s view. When Tinubu was outside power, did former President Goodluck Jonathan arrest him? Jonathan allowed him to protest freely. So why is Tinubu doing harm to us now?

“Omoyele Sowore has done the needful. He was out to ask for our rights. Any Nigerian who refuses to demand their rights is committing a sin against God and humanity.”

Fayose also described Sowore as a true patriot and hero, saying Nigerians must not abandon those who speak up for justice.

He added, “Omoyele Sowore is our hero. We don’t have another one.”

Israel launches series of strikes on East Lebanon

Published

on

Israel launched multiple airstrikes on mountainous areas in eastern Lebanon on Thursday, October 23, targeting Hezbollah positions, according to statements from both Lebanese and Israeli sources.

“Israeli warplanes launched a series of violent strikes on the eastern mountain range” in the Bekaa region near the Syrian border, Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported. The agency also said two Israeli strikes hit the Hermel range in the country’s northeast.

The Israeli military confirmed the attacks, stating that they targeted Hezbollah sites in eastern and northern Lebanon, including “a military camp and a site for the production of precision missiles” in the Bekaa. It said the strikes hit “several terrorist targets,” including “a camp used for training Hezbollah militants” and “military infrastructure at a site for the production of precision missiles.” The statement added that Israeli forces also struck “a Hezbollah military site in the Sharbin area in northern Lebanon.”

The strikes come despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November, which ended over a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of open conflict. The ceasefire required Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon and for Hezbollah to dismantle its military presence in the area.

Under pressure from the United States and in an effort to prevent renewed escalation, the Lebanese government has begun taking steps to disarm Hezbollah. However, the militant group and its allies remain firmly opposed to the plan.
