In less than 24 hours after the Adamawa State Government shut down boarding schools, the police have arrested three kidnappers in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Adamawa command spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje stated that the arrest “followed a complaint received on November 19, 2025, from a resident of a certain village in Song LGA, that on November 18, 2025, he received a threatening phone call from an unknown subscriber.”
According to the statement, the caller demanded the sum of N2m or risk being kidnapped and possibly killed.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Yola, to investigate and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.
The arrested suspects are Ahmadu Alhaji Halilu, 24 years; Adamu Buba Balejo, 21 years and Hassan Alhaji Liman, all males of Malabu District in Fufore Local Government Area.
“During the investigation, the three suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime. A SIM card used in the commission of the offence was also recovered and will be treated as an exhibit.”
The CP, who commended the officers involved in the operation, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting criminals across the state.
The Adamawa State Government on Saturday closed all public and private boarding schools in the state.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Dr Umar Pella, it stated that the decision by Fintiri to close the boarding schools was to avoid a repeat of the Niger and Kebbi states abduction of students.
“Sequel to the security challenges that the country is facing at the moment, particularly with what happened to students in Niger and Kebbi states, it has been observed with great dismay that the target of the evil perpetrators is boarding secondary schools.
“Considering this ugly situation in the country, I am directed by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, to deboard all boarding schools across the state, be it public or private schools”.
He added, “They should all operate as day schools for the moment. Therefore, by this letter, all principals and proprietors of public and private schools should deboard their respective students.”
