PHOTOS: Seven k!lled in fresh Plateau attacks
At least seven persons have been k!lled and one injured in fresh attacks in Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The National President of the Berom Youth Moulder-Association (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, said the victims were attacked at a mining site in the Gero community.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 9:34 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Dalyop said the assailants opened fire on miners at the site, forcing others to flee for safety.
In a related incident, BYM spokesperson Rwang Tengwong reported that one person was k!lled by armed men near the Foron community in Barkin Ladi LGA.
“During the attack, Mr. Ayuba Pam Choji, aged 44, was brutally st@bbed to d3ath,” Tengwong said.
A lone survivor, who was riding on the same motorcycle with the deceased, narrated that the assailants suddenly emerged from hiding and attacked them without provocation.
He added that the eyewitness claimed the attackers had earlier stationed themselves around the Bisichi axis, where they allegedly issued threats and an ultimatum for residents to vacate the area on or before January 7, 2026.
After the attack, the assailants were reportedly seen fleeing back towards the Bisichi area.
The BYM accused members of the Fulani ethnic group of carrying out the attacks.
In a similar incident, the President of Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, disclosed that one Mr. James Jatau from Hwrra was waylaid and killed by suspected Fulani militias along Zirshe-Maiyanga road on January 5 in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

PHOTOS: NDLEA nabs wanted drug kingpin after 13 years in hiding over cocaine, heroin shipments
After 13 years in hiding, an alleged notorious drug kingpin Reginald Peter Chidiebere has been taken into custody following the seizure of large consignments of cocaine and heroin linked to him by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 1, the spokesperson of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said the drug lord was first arrested in 2013 over the shipment of cocaine into Nigeria and was subsequently arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court Lagos in charge no. FHC/L/187c/2923. Babafemi mentioned that the suspect however jumped bail and went into hiding after the trial judge granted him bail in 2013 and has since remained at large.
‘’In February 2024, his name featured prominently as one of the masterminds of the shipment of 49.70 kilograms heroin imported from South Africa following the interception of the consignment by NDLEA operatives at the import shed of the Lagos airport.
A follow-up operation was carried out on 19th February 2024 at his Golden Platinum Hotel & Suites, located at No. 16/18 Reginald Peter Chidiebere Street, Hope Estate, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos where an additional 2.20 kilograms of heroin was recovered from one of his guests, Igbuanugo Ebuka ThankGod. As a result, Chidiebere went underground. The agency however secured the interim forfeiture of his hotel and blocked all bank accounts traced to him since 2024.
Following these developments, Chidiebere could no longer sustain himself in hiding, prompting his surrender to the agency on 13th February 2026 and has since been taken into custody to face his pending charges for which he jumped bail in 2013 and fresh charges based on the 2024 heroin consignments linked to him.’ the statement read
In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Imo state on Wednesday 25th February 2026 dismantled a clandestine laboratory tucked in Isiozi Obiato, Umuaka, Njaba local government area of the state where 18.4 kilograms of methamphetamine were recovered along with large quantity of precursor chemicals and equipment used in the production of the illicit substance.

Seven victims of another attack in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State have been laid to rest.
It was gathered that the assailants stormed Nche Shwerishi Miango on February 26, 2026, followed the victims into their bedrooms and k!lled them.
The burial, held at a primary school in Miango on Saturday, February 28, comes a few days after nine victims of a terror attack in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, were laid to rest.
Saturday’s ceremony was marked by protests and public outrage over the continued violence.
Mourners carried placards with inscriptions including “Irigwe lives matter,” “Stop this Christian genocide,” “End Christian Genocide in Nigeria,” “Listen to the cries of our widows,” and “Justice for the slain victims.”
National President of Irigwe Youths Movement, Ezekiel Bini, condemned the attack.
“We are tired of burying our people. We demand justice and protection for our community,” he said.
“We thought this nonsense would have stopped by now after two decades. We can no longer take this nonsense again. We have been crying, and no one seems to hear us. And when we say there is Christian genocide going on, some people won’t believe it. But right here, among the corpses, there is a Fulani man who is a Christian.”
Bini also criticised the arrest of community members over unrelated incidents.
“No Irigwe man should take responsibility for something we don’t know.
“We will not take it. If you arrest any Irigwe because of the death of any cow, we will not take it again. Enough is enough.”
The Paramount Ruler of the Irigwe ethnic nationality, His Royal Highness Ronku Aku, described the day as “a dark day for our community.”
He stressed the threat posed by open grazing.
“Our problem is open grazing. My people are being killed. Open grazing must stop for us to have peace in Nigeria. I’m calling on the government to intervene in this matter. You can’t be a Chief without the people,” he added.
Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area, Joshua Riti, assured residents of coordinated action with security agencies to apprehend the attackers.
Among those buried on Saturday was Abbas Musa, a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology and health officer with Bassa LGA, who was shot dead in his home on Monday, February 23, 2026.
Other victims included five family members—Nancy Monday, Nuhu Isaiah, Henry Dah, Zongo Sunday, and Tarma Monday.

The Oyo State Police Command has smashed a transnational ammunition trafficking syndicate and arrested two suspects at Budo Mosalasi, Saki.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, February 27, 2026 said the suspects, Isiaka Dare and Taiwo Ayodabo, were allegedly involved in trafficking weapons from Benin Republic into Nigeria.
According to the PPRO, operatives of the command monitoring unit, Saki Operation Base, arrested the suspects in a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
He said the operatives recovered 105 packets of pump-action cartridges concealed in four jerry cans—each containing 25 cartridges—amounting to 2,625 cartridges, as well as two unregistered motorcycles.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a major operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, a menace directly linked to violent crimes within the State and beyond,” the statement read.
“In furtherance of this commitment, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit, Saki Operation Base, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, executed a coordinated intelligence-led operation which led to the arrest of two suspected international gun runners.
“The suspects, identified as Isiaka Dare ‘m’, aged 35 years, and Taiwo Ayodabo ‘m’, aged 33 years, both of Tede, were apprehended at Budo Mosalasi, Saki.
“Investigation so far reveals that the suspects operate across international terrain, trafficking ammunition illegally from the Republic of Benin into Nigeria through unauthorized border routes.
“Their criminal enterprise involves the clandestine importation and distribution of prohibited ammunition to unauthorized individuals within the country—arms and ammunition which may ultimately be deployed in the commission of armed robbery, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
“Corroborating this intelligence, operatives recovered one hundred and five (105) packets of pump-action cartridges concealed in four (4) jerry cans/kegs, with each packet containing twenty-five (25) cartridges, amounting to a total of two thousand six hundred and twenty-five (2,625) cartridges.
“Two unregistered motorcycles believed to have been used for the illegal transportation and distribution of the ammunition were equally recovered.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime and are currently assisting investigators in unravelling the wider transnational network and identifying other accomplices involved in the illicit trade.”
Consequent upon this development, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna psc (+), has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of a thorough and comprehensive investigation.
The CP commended the professionalism and precision of the intelligence-led operation carried out by the Command Monitoring Unit, noting that proactive policing and actionable intelligence remain critical tools in dismantling organized criminal networks.
The Commissioner equally expressed appreciation to members of the public whose timely and credible information facilitated this breakthrough, emphasizing that community partnership remains indispensable in the fight against violent crime.
He further reassured residents that the Oyo State Police Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the State does not serve as a safe haven for crime and criminality.
The Command urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information as efforts intensify to rid the State of illegal arms proliferation and its attendant security threats.
