The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rubbished claims by Aminu Tambuwal that there is a “national consensus” to stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to power in 2027.

Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor and lawmaker representing Sokoto South, had on a television programme last Friday described the push against Tinubu’s re-election as a collective national agenda rather than a northern conspiracy.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said what exists is rather a consensus to support good governance, stressing that Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in Tinubu at the polls.

He said, “What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance, and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.”

Oladejo described Tambuwal’s statement as “another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth,” insisting that Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support Tinubu’s administration.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed, he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background. And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running,” Oladejo said.

The APC spokesman further advised Tambuwal to focus on clearing his name before anti-graft agencies, noting that “recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light.”

According to him, opposition talks about consensus ahead of 2027 amount to a “laughable” alliance driven by greed and desperation.

“We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance, sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness. Nigerians are watching too, popcorn in hand,” he mocked.

Oladejo maintained that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already producing results in stabilising the economy, tackling infrastructure deficits, and creating jobs.

“While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking shortly after his defection ceremony held in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, Rhodes-Vivour stated that the ADC represents a strong coalition to rescue Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said: “We are not holding a political rally but a political meeting, which we have constitutional rights to do. However, we will meet with the Commissioner of Police to know why his men are here and whether they are carrying out their duty of providing us protection or otherwise.”

While stating that his defection to ADC was rooted in the need to unite the opposition, the former guber candidate said: “This coalition is meant to rescue Nigeria. Since the 2023 elections, I have said we cannot afford to divide the opposition ahead of 2027. We must come together through a robust, strong coalition that can deliver Nigeria from those who hold power through thuggery, violence, and intimidation.”

“I am happy to become part of this family. My prayer is that God will grant our leaders the wisdom to come together and define a new path for Nigeria,” he added.

Speaking earlier, the ADC Chairman in Lagos, George Ashiru, described the defection as a significant step in building a broad-based coalition, adding that Rhodes-Vivour is the leader of a movement that shook Lagos in 2023.

“We are not affirming one man; we are affirming a movement. What Rhodes-Vivour represents is the leadership of a movement that shook Lagos in the last election. The coalition did not start three months ago—it began two years ago, and today we are celebrating it,” Ashiru said.

He added that ADC’s vision is for “a global Lagos – Lagos for everybody, where citizens and their children have opportunities for the future.”

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central senatorial district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has completed her six-month suspension from the Senate, paving the way for her return to legislative duties.

It was reports that the outspoken lawmaker was slammed with the sanction on March 6, 2025, which barred her from plenary sessions, entry into the National Assembly, and access to official resources after she was accused of breaching Senate rules.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has repeatedly dismissed the suspension as a witch-hunt, maintaining that it was triggered by her petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment.

Her suspension sparked weeks of tension, especially in July when she stormed the National Assembly complex with her lawyers, waving a court judgment she claimed ordered her recall. The drama caused a stir within the complex and reignited debates about legislative accountability and gender politics in parliament.

With her suspension now expired, attention has turned to how Akpoti-Uduaghan will be received on the floor of the Senate amid lingering friction with the leadership.

It was understands that the Senate President in August called on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to tender an apology, warning that the Senate is not a reality show.

Kenny Okolugbo, an aide to the Senate President, disclosed that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision to approach the Appeal Court shows that the judgment she was relying on to return to the Senate did not nullify her suspension.
