The Gombe State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with the arrest of notorious criminals, suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Parading suspects on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said operatives arrested one Abdullahi Mohammed, 32, of Liji Quarters, Yamaltu/Deba LGA, who allegedly specialised in recruiting young boys, equipping them with fake vigilante identity cards and uniforms, and sending them to rob unsuspecting residents.

Two of his alleged recruits, identified as Alkasim Mohammed a.k.a. “Babanta” (18) and Faruk Umar (18), were also arrested.

Items recovered from the suspect’s shop included four mobile phones, six vigilante ID cards, four ATM cards, a police T-shirt, two police belts, a power bank, handcuffs, knives, passports belonging to different persons, and a motorcycle plate number.

DSP Abdullahi said, “The suspects confessed to the crime. Our investigation revealed that Abdullahi Mohammed has been recruiting young boys and arming them with fake vigilante identity to perpetrate robbery and other criminal activities.”

He urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious movements in their communities.

In another development, the Command arrested one Lukman Auwal, of City Store, Bauchi State, in connection with an armed robbery incident in Kashere, Akko LGA.

On September 12, 2025, the suspect, alongside accomplices identified as Al’amin Bala, Abba Mohammed, and Aliyu Manto (others still at large), allegedly stormed a residence at Jauro Bose Quarters, Kashere, armed with cutlasses and knives.

They reportedly broke doors, assaulted occupants, and carted away seven mobile phones valued at ₦729,000, four power banks valued at ₦75,000, and ₦90,000 cash.

The Police Command also recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna (new model, light gold in color) after it was reported missing from the Gombe Old Market area on August 5, 2025.

The first suspect, Ibrahim Zubairu alias Dan Makka, of Tudun Wada, Pantami Quarters, Gombe, was arrested in Bauchi State. The stolen vehicle and fabricated keys were recovered in his possession.

DSP Abdullahi explained, “During interrogation, the suspect mentioned the names of his syndicate members, who are currently at large. Our operatives are intensifying efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.”

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property, saying “We assure members of the public of our unwavering dedication to ensuring safety across the state. We call on residents to continue providing useful information that will aid the police in crime prevention and control.”

It was earlier reported that the Gombe Police Command has recorded major successes in the fight against crime, with the rescue of two abandoned infants and the arrest of two teenagers for alleged rape.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement, stressed that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property in the state.

According to him, a three-month-old baby was rescued on September 15, 2025, after being allegedly given away by her mother, Fatima Abdullahi, 20, of Damaturu, Yobe State, in connivance with one Adama Ibrahim. The child was handed over to one Fatima Haruna of Liji Quarters, Gombe, who fled with the baby.

Published

on

Troops of the 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck conveying a large consignment of illicit drugs along the Lagos Calabar Coastal Road in a successful intelligence led operation, dealing another blow to drug trafficking activities within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.

Lt. Col. Yahaya said the operation was carried out on July 9, 2026, after troops acted on credible intelligence. The vehicle was intercepted and its driver arrested without incident.

Preliminary investigations according to him, indicated that the illicit drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. However, the suspect was unable to provide satisfactory information on the ownership of the consignment or identify its intended recipient.

Following the interception, he said the suspect and the recovered drugs were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The military spokesman said the handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, who transferred both the suspect and the seized consignment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Lagos State Command in line with established procedures.

Reacting to the operation, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and operational effectiveness.

He urged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to deny drug traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of action within the division’s area of responsibility.

US Releases List, Names Of 5 Popular Yahoo Boys Facing Deportation

Published

on

US government released the identities of five notorious Nigerian cyber fraudsters (Yahoo boys) who were among those marked for deportation.

One of the individuals was once celebrated on a prestigious global business Forbes list before his dramatic downfall landed him in the sights of US authorities.

Legit.ng compiled the five Nigerian Yahoo boys who would face deportation from the US after completing their prison terms.

The United States Government, through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has updated its public register of online fraudsters (Yahoo boys) slated for deportation.

Among the list of 124 Nigerians flagged on the portal are five notorious, well-known cyber fraudsters whose identities, photographs, and criminal profiles have been officially published.

The database, known as the “Worst of the Worst” (WOW) portal, highlights some Nigerians who have been convicted of major federal crimes and are prioritised for deportation by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Legit.ng has collated a detailed report on the five popular Nigerian fraudsters (Yahoo Boys) who are now awaiting deportation, including a former Forbes-celebrated businessman

1. Obinwanne Okeke (Invictus Obi)
Perhaps the most famous name on the deportation list is Obinwanne Okeke, widely known as Invictus Obi. In 2016, Okeke was celebrated internationally, even making the prestigious Forbes “30 Under 30” list of Africa’s most promising entrepreneurs.
However, his empire crumbled when the FBI arrested him for masterminding an $11 million global cyber-intrusion and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scheme. His team successfully hacked the email systems of Unatrac Holding Limited, a heavy machinery supplier, to divert massive payments. Okeke was sentenced to 10 years in a US federal prison in 2021. Following his release from custody, he was transferred to ICE and placed on the priority deportation list.

2. Oriyomi Aloba
Oriyomi Aloba carried out one of the most unusual cyberattacks on the list by targeting the US justice system itself. Aloba successfully hacked into the Los Angeles Superior Court computer system. He then hijacked the court’s servers to send over 2 million malicious phishing emails to unsuspecting recipients, aiming to steal credit card details and personal identity data.
In 2019, US federal authorities sentenced him to 145 months (over 12 years) in prison. He has now been officially listed on the DHS portal for deportation to Nigeria.

3. Chibundu Anuebunwa
Chibundu Anuebunwa specialised in high-level corporate impersonation to swindle international companies. Anuebunwa was a key player in a transnational cyber fraud ring that ran a $2.5 million BEC scheme. The crime team specialised in spoofing and hacking corporate emails to impersonate high-ranking executives, tricking companies worldwide into executing fraudulent wire transfers. He was sentenced to 66 months (5.5 years) in federal prison in 2023. His profile and photo are now active on the US deportation registry.

4. Quazeem Adeyinka
Quazeem Adeyinka was part of a team that exploited US government emergency funds during the global pandemic crisis. Adeyinka participated in a wire fraud conspiracy that used stolen identities to file fraudulent claims for COVID-19 pandemic-related unemployment insurance benefits. The scheme successfully siphoned over $2.2 million from US taxpayer-funded relief programs.
He was sentenced to 26 months in federal prison and has been marked on the priority list for deportation

5. Olaolu Alabi
Olaolu Alabi used stolen pandemic relief and corporate fraud proceeds to fund a lavish lifestyle before his arrest. Operating out of Owings Mills, Maryland, Alabi was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, access device fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
He defrauded individuals and businesses of over 500,000, some of which he spent on a luxury trip to Hawaii for himself and his friends. He was sentenced to 66 months (5.5 years) in federal prison and is now awaiting repatriation to Nigeria on the DHS list.

While the US Government has published their names and photographs, the DHS has not released specific deportation flight dates. Under US law, each individual’s deportation will be processed systematically as they complete their prison sentences or exhaust their remaining legal options.
