The Awojiya family of Abomiti-Nla in the Epe area of Lagos State has warned potential land buyers and developers against engaging in unauthorised transactions involving their ancestral land.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, the head of the family, Salami Ayinde, and the acting Secretary, Salami Mustapha, cautioned that no portion of their land in the Abomiti-Nla resettlement area was available for sale.

The family cautioned that any purchase made without the collective consent of its members would be rendered null and void.

They explained that only land transactions backed by documented minutes of the meeting held on September 27, 2025, duly signed by authorised representatives, would be recognised as valid.

“Any land bought from certain individuals without a unanimous agreement of the family members will be rendered null and void. Without presentation of documents showing the minutes of the meeting held at our ancestral venue with the duly signed signatures of those present, any land sale will be considered baseless,” they said.

The Awojiya family further warned that it reserved the right to take legal action against anyone who purchased or attempted to sell land in violation of the family’s resolution.

“We will take legal action against anyone who attempts to disrupt subsequent electioneering activities in our community due to land sales or sides with those who have mismanaged our family land. We have also submitted a petition to the Lagos State House of Assembly on the rejection of representation by certain individuals In Awojiya family, Iberikodo quarters, Epe,” the family further warned.

The descendants expressed concern that continued unauthorised sales could lead to the extinction of Abomiti-Nla, one of 13 historic villages founded by their forefathers.

They explained that such loss would affect local governance, traditional leadership, and the community’s heritage, including the Abomiti primary school, which has produced many notable figures.

“If Abomiti-Nla ceases to exist, what will happen to our polling booths, our Bales’ authority, and the school that bears our name,” the statement queried.

They appealed to all stakeholders to respect the collective decision of the family and avoid actions that could threaten the survival of their community.

The statement read, “We are committed to preserving our family land and ensuring that our community continues to thrive. We urge everyone to respect our decision and refrain from dealings that may jeopardise our heritage.”

The family also called on the leadership of the Community Welfare Committee of the zone to remain neutral in the matter and appealed to the lawmaker representing Epe Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abiodun Tobun, to intervene before the situation escalates.

They particularly advised Amen Estate and Harmony Estate to refrain from further development on the disputed land, stressing that the individuals they transacted with had no authority to represent the family.
