Ijebu-Ode gears up for major tourism boost

Published

on

IJEBU-ODE is preparing to take centre stage in Nigeria’s fast-growing cultural tourism landscape as the ancient city gears up for the maiden edition of the Ijebu Shutdown Party, scheduled for December 20, 2025.

With its debut theme, “The Wonderland Experience,” the event is already being touted by tourism observers and entertainment enthusiasts as a potential game-changer for end-of-year travel and youth tourism in the South-West, according to a statement from the organisers on Tuesday.

Positioned as a fusion of music, art, fashion, and contemporary youth culture, the Ijebu Shutdown Party is targeting students, creatives, nightlife lovers, and young professionals from across Ogun State, Lagos, and neighbouring regions.

More importantly, it aims to reposition Ijebu-Ode as a December destination capable of drawing large visitor traffic, an ambition organisers say is long overdue.

Team Lead for the Ijebu Shutdown Party, Toyosola Amuludun, popularly known as Tall Dreaded Guy, said the initiative is part of a broader push to spotlight Ijebu-Ode as a city with untapped tourism and entertainment potential.

“Ijebu is ready for its spotlight. Our aim is to build a December culture that brings people home, attracts new faces, and firmly places our city on Nigeria’s entertainment and tourism map. This isn’t just a party — it’s a full-blown experience designed to redefine how December feels in Ijebu,” he said.

Tourism analysts note that events of this scale often become economic stimulators for host communities, especially in the festive season. Organisers project more than 2,000 attendees, including performers, DJs, influencers, fashion enthusiasts, and fun-seekers from across the South-West — numbers expected to translate into increased patronage for local hotels, restaurants, lounges, transport operators, fashion boutiques, and beauty vendors.

The Wonderland Experience will feature immersive stage and lighting design, a premium VIP zone, surprise performances, interactive games, a curated festival marketplace, and cinematic and photo zones — all elements typically associated with destination events that encourage visitor spending and extended stays.

For many residents, the growing buzz has revived memories of the pre-festival excitement associated with the globally celebrated Ojude-Oba Festival.

Some community members have even described the upcoming event as a new December signature for Ijebu, signalling a promising addition to the city’s cultural tourism calendar.

The statement stated that with sponsorship opportunities still open, brands looking to connect with the vibrant youth demographic are expected to leverage the platform as an entry point into one of the South-West’s emerging creative hubs.

Ogun monarch slams Fayose for insulting Obasanjo

Published

on

The Olu of Orile Kemta in Ogun State, Oba (Dr) Adetokunbo Tejuosho, on Tuesday, lambasted former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, over the insulting “thank you” message he sent to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday.

Oba Tejuosho’s statement, titled “A royal rebuke to Ayo Fayose”, condemned the Fayose’s remarks as unguarded, uncultured, and unwarranted, warning that the ex-governor would have to contend with the law of karma in the near future.

Fayose had on Monday lampooned Obasanjo over the remarks he made at his 65th birthday celebrations in Lagos.

Fayose described Obasanjo’s comments as irresponsible, adding that the 89-year-old ex-president “belongs in the zoo.”

He also demanded that Obasanjo should promptly return the money sent to facilitate his attendance at the event.

Reacting on Tuesday, Oba Tejuosho said Fayose’s message revealed “his hollowness and haughtiness against nothing,” and emphasised that Obasanjo is not only a former military head of state and two-term president from 1999 to 2007, but also a global statesman and father of Yorubaland whose legacy extends across Africa.

“Mr. Fayose, your recent message to our Baba Obasanjo was not courage, it was simply a reckless and unguarded noise,” the monarch said. “It is a confession of your own moral confusion. There is a total difference between being courageous and full hardiness, as Baba rightly said at the event of your 65th birthday. Your action was a restless echo of a man who forgets that elders are the pillars of our civilization. You dare speak to a general while standing on ground his service, sweat, discipline, and sacrifices helped secure. You throw stones at a colossus while standing barefoot on a hill he built. You spit toward the sky forgetting that the heavens will send the rain back upon your own face tomorrow.”

According to the monarch, Fayose did not wound Obasanjo’s honour but “you have only amplified your own irrelevance.”

“Your words show not bravery, but a staggering poverty of wisdom. Do you think the elders in Ekiti State will be proud of you as their product? Baba Obasanjo is a chapter of our national story, a pride of the Yoruba race, and a sentinel of the republic. You were just 16 when Baba became Head of State, and now you seek to challenge the legacy of such a legend,” the monarch said.

a Tejuosho further highlighted that Fayose had benefited from Obasanjo’s mentorship, noting:

“You were barely 43 when Baba gave you all in his care to support your ambition, which made you a governor in 2003. You now have the impertinence to rebuke a man who carried Nigeria through storms you could never comprehend. You had the audacity to send such a message to the idol of the entire Yoruba race.”

The monarch criticised Fayose for publicly insulting Obasanjo instead of addressing any disagreements privately, and concluded with a warning about the consequences of such behaviour.

“Hear this truth clearly: General Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo is an institution, a legacy, and a chapter of Nigeria’s story that cannot be edited by the pen of your weightless bitterness. I wonder what ethical legacy you want to leave behind for your children. Posterity will not forgive you, and karma will call at your door in your old age,” the monarch said.

Genevieve Nnaji slams viral tweet urging Igbo men to marry non-Igbo women

Published

on

Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has fired off a sharp response after a man on X (formerly Twitter) advised Igbo men to stop marrying Igbo women and instead seek wives from other African countries.

The controversy began after a photo of a Rwandan woman said to be engaged to an Anambra man went viral.

Resharing the image, the user wrote, “Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying an Igbo woman who’ll falsely accuse you of r4ping your daughter, better look outside for a wife.

“Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda, and pick a damsel. They’re all over social media, and you can link up with them.”

Genevieve, who rarely comments on online drama, responded, “In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”

Another user attempted to challenge her, claiming the original tweet was aimed at “false rape accusers” and that Genevieve was avoiding the real issue.

“His tweet was clearly against false rape accusers, but instead of holding the evil women accountable and demanding change, you chose to tweet this?”

But the actress hit back with equal clarity: “The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. ‘Not all women’.”

Don’t handle your family feud like I did, Phyna advises Imisi

Published

on

Reality TV star Phyna has offered words of encouragement to fellow Big Brother Naija winner Imisi amid a family feud between the latter and her mother.

In an X post on Monday, Phyna wrote,”To Imisi, @imisiofficial and to anyone walking through the same fire… I’m praying for your strength.

“My own experience broke me, but I’m slowly rising.

“And I’m rooting for you with everything in me, don’t handle it like I did, build strong and focus on you baby girl.”

The post comes against the backdrop of a family dispute in which Imisi’s mother accused her daughter of hatred and revealed the poor condition of the home where she currently lives, despite Imisi winning N150 million after her Big Brother victory.

Imisi replied in Yoruba,”This is why Aunty Debola said you should not show your face to the world. I can’t be saying all that now, you are in the midst of people. Just overlook everything and leave social media.

“Don’t worry, I will send you money to rent a new house. I am tired of all this drama. I am still recovering from the stress of Big Brother.

“Should I be facing another stress now? Please forgive me, I am your daughter.”

Recall Imisi’s mother has publicly expressed frustration on social media, saying she does not need her daughter’s money after being sidelined following the win.

She also blamed Imisi for recounting her childhood experiences, which she claims involve untrue allegations of parental neglect and sexual assault.

In a video, she showed the old house she currently resides in, saying she is content with her situation, a revelation that sparked online controversy.

In 2023, after Phyna’s BBNaija win, her father, Felix Otabor, revealed in an interview that he was distressed by his daughter’s actions following her BBNaija win.

Otabor said Phyna had asked him to stop working as a hearse driver and requested that he sell his cars, promising to improve the family’s life.

He said he later struggled financially after selling the vehicles, losing his business momentum and community position, and has not seen his daughter since her victory.

He described feeling sidelined while she enjoyed her wealth.
