Peter Obi would win northern states if he returns to PDP – Jerry Gana

Published

on

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Jerry Gana, has claimed that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would defeat any contender in Nigeria’s northern states if he contested on the PDP platform.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Gana said, “I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate, because our people are very fair‑minded.”

Peter Obi quit the PDP in May 2022 to lead the Labour Party during the 2023 elections.

Reflecting on the PDP’s roots, the PDP Chieftain reminded Nigerians of the party’s grassroots strength and its pivotal role in restoring democratic governance.

He said, “I must confess that many people have forgotten that the PDP was created as a grassroots organisation. In 1998, we were formed and then, moving to the elections in 1999, we were in every polling unit, because we are the ones who really won the first election.

“Many people have forgotten that the PDP won most of the local governments. When it came to the presidential elections, we won the presidency, we won the Senate, and we won the House. We were totally in control, and that is why we were very delighted that we restored democracy to Nigeria and re‑established civil rule.

“Because for a number of years there was military rule, but we successfully terminated that in a very democratic way, so the PDP was really as it were, a grassroots party. That’s why when we said ‘power to the people’, we meant it because that was what it was, and it has been like that.”

On recent party conflicts, he downplayed their scale, saying, “So when this recent problem happened, it was really among a few elites here in Abuja. It didn’t even go beyond.”

Gana, who served in key roles during Nigeria’s transition to democracy, including Minister of Information and Cooperation from 1999–2003 under President Obasanjo, also hinted at equity in party zoning, adding, “In 2031, it will be the turn of the North. Our people are very fair, and we are building a nation.”

You Will Not Defeat Tinubu In Lagos Again – Presidency To Peter Obi

Published

on

Special Adviser Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has declared that the incumbent administration is not threatened by the political aspirations of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He stated that Obi was a threat and a nightmare, but currently, Tinubu’s administration is not afraid of him.

It was reports that the media aide stated this during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast.

He boasted that the performance of Tinubu’s administration has put him on solid ground.

He said: “This government is not afraid of Peter Obi, the same right he has to ask Tinubu to resign is the same right the government has to respond to him that the president will not resign, there is no basis or reason for the president to resign.

“The right that the government has to educate to say that you need to go back to school, we run a presidential system, we have elections every four years and not just for the president but for the Senate and House of Representatives.

“That’s where you can go back for the citizens, so nobody is afraid of Peter Obi.

“He is not a nightmare, maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance.

“We are able to interrogate the problems of this country. Peter Obi will not defeat President Tinubu in Lagos again.”

₦50,000 Enough To Start – Mumuni Defends Remi Tinubu’s ‘Akara’ Comment

Published

on

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has condemned criticisms trailing the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, recent statement urging Nigerians to get involved in small scale businesses.

It was reports that Tinubu had come under heavy backlash after she encouraged Nigerians, particularly women, to consider engaging in petty businesses such as frying and selling akara and roasted corn to improve their livelihoods.

Sharing his thoughts on the matter in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni opined that the First Lady was misunderstood.

He argued that Tinubu’s message was intended to encourage economic self sufficiency among Nigerians, especially women and low income families, through businesses that require little start up capital.

“I wish to address recent misinterpretations surrounding the First Lady’s advocacy for informal business ventures, particularly in the production and sale of traditional food items such as akara and kulili,” he said.

Mumuni argued that many Nigerians living below the poverty line only require modest financial support to establish small businesses capable of generating sustainable income.

“The reality is that some poor Nigerians only need a token to start a business and get it right. For some Nigerians, ₦50,000 or ₦100,000 is enough to start a business and begin making profits. Those are the category of people the First Lady is referring to. There is no need for unnecessary criticism,” he said

Mumuni added that beyond encouraging low capital businesses, the Federal Government had also introduced several programmes to support medium and large scale enterprises.

According to him, initiatives such as the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, the Presidential Palliative Loan Programme, the Bank of Industry intervention funds and financing windows, as well as support programmes of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, demonstrate the government’s commitment to empowering businesses of different sizes.

He noted that many Nigerians had already benefited from the interventions, stressing that the various programmes cater for entrepreneurs with different levels of capital needs, from small start ups to established businesses.

According to him, the First Lady’s statement should not be interpreted as limiting the aspirations of women or dismissing the country’s economic challenges.

“The First Lady’s statement reflects a genuine concern for economic self sufficiency among Nigerian women and families. Her emphasis on these ventures stems from the practical reality that accessible, low capital business opportunities can provide immediate income and food security for households.

“This is not a dismissal of women’s capabilities or potential, but rather an acknowledgment of viable pathways that have demonstrably helped many families achieve basic sustenance,” he stated.

He urged Nigerians to distinguish between constructive criticism and what he described as misplaced anger.

“We must distinguish between constructive criticism and misplaced anger. While opinions on policy direction are valid, channeling our collective energy toward addressing the substantive challenges facing our nation, including widespread insecurity, poverty and hunger, would be more productive. These remain the critical issues requiring urgent national attention and discourse,” he said.

I’m not ingrate like Aregbesola, will support Tinubu – Sunday Igboho

Published

on

Yoruba nation freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho, has declared that he’s not an ingrate like the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rauf Aregbesola.

Igboho vowed to support President Bola Tinubu and not be an ingrate with Aregbesola.

He spoke during a visit to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Youth Network in Accra, Ghana.

According to Igboho: “I will continue to appreciate and support the government of Bola Tinubu for forgiving me and restoring me back from a lonely exile. I will support him for eight years because I am not an ingrate like his former commissioner called Aregbesola.

“Tinubu made Aregbesola Commissioner, removed Oyinlola as Governor and put Aregbesola and later Aregbesola became federal minister but see what the ingrate is saying about his benefactor today.”

The Yoruba Nation agitator expressed optimism that Tinubu would spend eight years in power.

“May we never be ingrates in our lives. Obasanjo spent 8 years, Buhari spent 8 years, even Jonathan spent about 6 years too.

“Tinubu will complete his 8 years by God’s grace, nothing will stop him,” he added.
