The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has submitted the first batch of commissioner-nominees to the Benue State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, who made this known in a statement on Friday in Makurdi, said that the transmission of the list to the House was in line with constitutional provisions.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Alia had sacked all the 17 commissioners and his Chief of staff on Wednesday.

Kula listed the first batch of commissioner nominees to include Theresa Odachi, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, Dr Margaret Adamu, and Dr Peter Oboh.

Others, he said, are Dr Timothy Yangien, Mr Denis Iyaighgba, Mr James Dwem and Dr Paul Ogwuche.

He said that the second batch of nominees would be forwarded to the House of Assembly in a matter of days.

Kula said the governor was committed to ensuring transparency, competence, and inclusivity in the selection of individuals to drive his administration’s vision and mission for the state.

PHOTOS: Nigeria Air Force Hails Pilots Who Ejected From Crashed Jet For Bravery

Published

The Force, in a post on its X handle on Sunday, commended the officers for their “exceptional bravery and professionalism.”

The Nigerian Air Force has shared photos of two pilots who narrowly escaped death after ejecting from their aircraft during an in-flight emergency in Niger State.

The Force, in a post on its X handle on Sunday, commended the officers for their “exceptional bravery and professionalism.”

The incident occurred on Saturday during a routine post-maintenance test flight from Kainji Air Base, when an Alpha Jet aircraft developed a fault.

The pilots safely ejected before the jet crashed near Karabonde village in Borgu Local Government Area.

The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, had, in an earlier statement on Saturday, also commended the pilots for manoeuvring the jet away from populated areas before ejecting.

He confirmed that both officers were already undergoing routine medical evaluation.

He added that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, had ordered the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the incident.

“The Nigerian Air Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to stringent safety standards and operational excellence.

“The NAF remains dedicated to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in line with its constitutional mandate,” the statement added.

The NAF’s Alpha Jets are primarily used for training and air-to-ground missions and have been deployed extensively in internal security operations across the country.

Talon safe as loyalist forces regain control after brief coup scare

Published

on

Benin’s President Patrice Talon is safe, and security forces are restoring order after a faction of soldiers claimed to have removed him from power, the presidency announced on Sunday.

In a brief statement, the presidency dismissed the soldiers’ declaration as the actions of a fringe group with limited influence.

“This is a small group of individuals who only managed to seize the television station. The regular army is steadily regaining control. Both the city and the entire country remain completely secure,” the statement said.

The clarification follows an earlier broadcast by soldiers identifying themselves as the “Military Committee for Refoundation,” who declared that Talon had been removed from office.

The government has since described the broadcast as an isolated disruption, assuring citizens that the situation is under control.

Benin govt provides fresh update on coup, says plotters on run, some arrested

Published

on

A new update shared by Nigeria’s Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga says authorities in Benin Republic have confirmed that the leader of the group behind Sunday’s attempted mutiny, Colonel Pascal Tigri, is now on the run.

According to him, “The latest report from the Benin Republic said Colonel Pascal Tigri, the leader of the mutineers who seized the country’s National TV on Sunday, is on the run.”

He added that some members of the group have already been arrested after security forces stopped the attempted takeover.

Benin’s Interior Minister, Alassane Seidou, appeared on national television to announce that the situation had been brought under control.

He explained what happened on Sunday morning.

He said, “Early on Sunday morning, 7 December 2025, a small group of soldiers launched a mutiny aimed at destabilising the state and its institutions.

“Faced with this situation, the Beninese armed forces and their leadership, true to their oath, remained committed to the republic. Their response allowed them to retain control of the situation and foil the attempt.

“The government therefore urges the population to go about their activities as normal.”
