2027: “I’ll Never Align With Tinubu To Become Lagos Governor” – Rhodes-Vivour

Published

on

Lagos State 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has emphatically stated that he would not align with president Bola Tinubu to become the state governor come 2027.

Rhodes-Vivour, who said this on Sunday, when he was responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television, stressed that it would be a complete waste of time for him to do so.

“I will rather go and focus on my business, my work, and my family. That [aligning with Tinubu] will be a complete waste of time.

“The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better; it is to restore Lagos to its old glory — glory that a lot of people might not really be familiar with in terms of the history of Lagos, and the greatness that Lagos once was,” he said.

The politician further stated that any party that would not allow him to maximise the commonwealth of Lagos for the benefit of its people is a complete waste of time.

According to him, Lagos would be better if the domination of what he termed as “agberocracry” was expunged.

Rhodes-Vivour, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said his decision is to square up to the ruling party.

He also said that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, was aware of his decision to move to the ADC.

When asked if he would run for the Lagos State governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the ADC, he said, “by God’s grace.”

PDP south-west chieftain defects to APC

Published

on

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Democratic Party in Ogun State and South-West Chairman of The Alternative Movement, Olusola Salau, on Monday announced his defection alongside his hundreds of supporters to the ruling All Progressive Congress.

Salau announced his defection on Monday, in a statement personally signed by him and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The PDP chieftain, while lamenting the low turnout of residents and the result of the recently concluded Remo Federal constituency by-election, said that “there is nothing more for Ogun State PDP, I have finally made up my mind to dump the party.

“An experienced politician like me must know that in Ogun State and the entire Southwest, there is nothing more for the PDP, and I have told the leadership of the party, enough is enough”

He noted that he, alongside his large number of followers, would be joining forces with the ruling party to make it stronger and help make the state better.

Salau clarified that while he decamps to APC, he remains the Southwest chairman of The Alternative, a national opposition movement coalition focused on revitalising and reorienting Nigeria’s democracy towards ideological clarity, integrity, and transparency.

The statement partly read, “I want to make an official declaration that I am no longer LADO, I am no longer a PDP member.

“I was the first strong mobilisation expert for LADO’s  House of Representatives election. I was the first person with God’s support who started LADO for Governor.

“As a political analyst, I  have told my followers that we are done with PDP and we are moving in large numbers to join His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun in our next political movement, and we shall be joining other progressives to make APC stronger than it used to be in the past”.

Last week Thursday, former chairmanship candidate of the opposition party for Yewa North Local Government during the 2021 local government elections, Kehinde Olaniyi Akinde had equally resigned from the party.

Akinde in a statement expressed deep disappointment with the current state of the PDP, both at the national, State and local government levels citing injustice and unending internal wranglings among others.

It will be recalled that the former state chairman of the party, Dr Sikirulahi Ogundele and the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the party, Abdulkabir Akinlade, had also recently, in Abeokuta led hundreds of their supporters to defect into the ruling All Progressives Congress

Both Ogundele and Akinlade had accused the 2023 governorship candidate of the party, Oladipupo Adebutu of high-handedness and hijacking the control of the party as if it were his personal business empire.

“Lagos Belongs To Everyone, Not One Man” – Rhodes-Vivour

Published

on

Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has reiterated that Lagos State is not the preserve of a single individual.

The statement was made on Sunday, during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

Rhodes-Vivour emphasised that leadership in Lagos should be a shared responsibility among all residents.

He said, “Lagos is a home to all. The idea that Lagos belongs to only one man and leadership in the state is controlled by only one man in the last two decades is what I’m completely against.”

He further highlighted challenges faced by opposition parties in the state, pointing out restrictions and security measures that hinder political activities.

“It’s not about me. It’s about the people of Lagos, the people of Nigeria. Look at the situation that we have today.

“You have local government chairmen going on inner roads that are terrible in this Lagos in Alogbomoso with policemen to prevent an opposition party from having a gathering.

“The opposition parties are not coming for violence but to give quality leadership to the people,” Rhodes-Vivour added.

On the broader political climate, he stated, “Leadership should not be a monopoly. Lagos belongs to every resident, every voter, every young person seeking opportunity.”

He also stressed the need for accountability, saying, “The people deserve leaders who listen, who provide solutions, and who create opportunities, not leaders who control everything from the top.

2027: No National Consensus To Unseat Tinubu — Lagos APC Tackles Tambuwal

Published

on

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rubbished claims by Aminu Tambuwal that there is a “national consensus” to stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to power in 2027.

Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor and lawmaker representing Sokoto South, had on a television programme last Friday described the push against Tinubu’s re-election as a collective national agenda rather than a northern conspiracy.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said what exists is rather a consensus to support good governance, stressing that Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in Tinubu at the polls.

He said, “What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance, and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.”

Oladejo described Tambuwal’s statement as “another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth,” insisting that Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support Tinubu’s administration.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed, he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background. And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running,” Oladejo said.

The APC spokesman further advised Tambuwal to focus on clearing his name before anti-graft agencies, noting that “recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light.”

According to him, opposition talks about consensus ahead of 2027 amount to a “laughable” alliance driven by greed and desperation.

“We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance, sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness. Nigerians are watching too, popcorn in hand,” he mocked.

Oladejo maintained that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already producing results in stabilising the economy, tackling infrastructure deficits, and creating jobs.

“While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
