PHOTOS: Bandits gun down abducted elderly woman for being too weak to trek to their hideout in Kogi forest
Suspected bandits have kidnapped and k!lled an elderly woman identified as Mrs Elizabeth Olorunshola, in Ilafin-Isanlu community, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The armed men attacked the community on Saturday night, November 8, 2025, abducted the woman along the Ilafin-Isanlu road and shot another victim.
Sources within the community revealed that the bandits allegedly shot Mrs. Olorunshola after realising that she was too weak to continue walking through the forest toward their hideout.
The bodies of the kidnapped woman and the wounded man were discovered in the bush on Sunday, heightening fear among the residents of the area, with many relocating to safer communities.
Following the incident, residents of Yagba East took to the streets, protesting the unchecked waved of kidnappings and bandit attacks in the area.
Residents described the atmosphere in Ilafin-Isanlu as one of deep mourning and terror, with many saying, the community is under siege.
The President of the Ilafin Development Association (IDA), Mr. Idowu Awe, described the incident as “very sad and disheartening.”
“Today, we had a terrible and disturbing experience that led to the loss of one of our great daughters and mother – Mrs Elizabeth Olorunshola. We commensurate with the Olorunsholas’ Family in particular and Ilafin community as a whole,” the statement read.
“This challenge has received the attention of our elders and leaders. Discussions are ongoing as to what we can do to secure our community.”
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. (Dr.) Joshua Dare Monday, described the incident as heartbreaking, assuring that the perpetrators would not go unpunished
He added that the council, in collaboration with security agencies, had intensified efforts to strengthen surveillance and restore calm across communities affected by banditry
“A tragic attack occurred last night, resulting in the abduction and subsequent k!lling of a woman, while another person sustained gunshot injuries,” he said.
Member representing Yagba East-West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, also condemned the attack.
Extending condolences to the family and affected communities, he vowed that the kidnappers and their informants would be brought to justice
“We will not relent until our communities and forests are safe from perpetrators who target innocent citizens,” Abejide said.

A rare explosion in Pakistan’s capital city on Tuesday has left 12 d3ad and 20 !njured, a major hospital told reporters.
A security source in Pakistan told Reuters that the explosion near the city’s High Court early on Tuesday afternoon, November 11 is being investigated as a suicide attack.
The country’s president released a statement condemning what he called a “suicide blast” near the city’s High Court.
The capital requires a high level of security to enter and exit the city with specific security zones throughout. The explosion took place in the parking lot of the city’s busy judicial complex in a district full of high-ranking government offices.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack yet, but a statement released by a security source to a news agency has claimed it was carried out by militants associated with the Afghan Taliban and India.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister stated on X that Pakistan is in a “state of war” and that this attack should be taken as a “wake-up call” with regards to negotiations with neighboring Afghanistan.
Pakistan has faced a surge in Islamist violence since the Afghan Taliban swept Kabul in 2021. The capital has long accused Kabul of harboring the Pakistani Taliban militant group (known as the TTP), which its Afghan namesake denies.
Clashes between the Pakistani and Afghan militaries in October saw the worst violence between the two countries in years.
An attempt to maintain a ceasefire fell apart when peace talks between the two neighbors failed in a major Turkish city last week following the failure to establish a long-term deal regarding hostile militant groups in Afghanistan that operate against Pakistan.
The minister had stated that this attack “all the way to the capital is a message from Kabul, to which — praise be to God — Pakistan has the full strength to respond.”
The attack comes less than a day after a cadet college was attacked by militants in northwestern Pakistan.

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the premeditated m8rder of a 30-year-old Nigerian woman, Victory Osarumen Thompson, in Limassol, Cyprus.
Thompson was found d3ad in her Germasogeia flat on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou said the police received a call from the ambulance service around 10:30 a.m, reporting the woman’s d3ath.
The victim suffered injuries consistent with being brutally beaten with a broomstick, investigators told the Limassol District Court earlier this week.
Three female suspects, believed to be Nigerian nationals, were appeared at the scene. They appeared in court on Monday, November 10, where they were detained for eight days on suspicion of premeditated m8rder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Two additional persons, a couple from Nigeria, were arrested on Tuesday, November 11.
The suspects, aged 30 and 31, who were allegedly present during the incident, used force against the victim, and allegedly fled the scene taking the victim’s mobile phone.
The newly arrested pair were detained separately—the man in Nicosia and the woman in Limassol—and are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court later today for a remand hearing.
Police say new witness statements are reinforcing suspicions that the k!lling was premeditated.
According to reports, neighbors heard loud arguments in the hours before the woman’s d3ath, details that match what forensic experts found at the scene.
Police confirmed the suspects are asylum seekers, with one application already rejected and the others still pending.
During the on-site autopsy, investigators discovered multiple signs of physical abuse, prompting authorities to immediately treat the case as a homicide. Evidence collected from the scene is now being analyzed to help determine the motive and exact circumstances surrounding Thompson’s d3ath.
According to the suspects’ statements to police, the victim was in an “out of control” state—potentially due to drug use—when they returned to the flat around 05:00.
They claimed the victim started attacking them and they used force to restrain her, resulting in her fatal injury.
The second female suspect admitted in a written statement to police that she took a broomstick and hit the victim, even after she had fallen.
A large number of items were collected as evidence, including the broken broomstick, all of which were sent for forensic examination.
The CID continues to take statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
