Donald Trump has expressed surprise over Iran’s ability to develop missiles capable of travelling as far as 2,700 miles.

Trump expressed this surprises on Friday while highlighting concerns about Iran’s growing missile arsenal.

Iran has been developing its missile capabilities, including the Khorramshahr and Sejjil missiles with ranges of around 2,000 kilometers, and the Soumar cruise missile with a range of up to 3,000 kilometers.

It was gathered that Iran’s missile capabilities have been a subject of debate, with some experts saying Tehran’s claims of targeting US bases are exaggerated, while others warn that Iran’s advancements pose a significant threat to regional and global security.

Meanwhile, the US has acknowledged Iran’s growing capabilities, with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stating that Iran could hit Washington DC and other major US cities with intermediate-range ballistic missiles through proxies in Venezuela.

“The United States was unaware Iran had the capability to launch a missile 2,700 miles,” Trump said.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of a former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has d!ed.

Hajia El-Rufai passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Her grandson, Hon. Bello El-Rufai, announced her d3ath in a post on Facebook.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.

“She is the biological mother of our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai. We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”

The development comes at a time when the former Kaduna State governor is in custody.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had arraigned him on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering after one month in detention.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and a Federal High Court in Kaduna adjourned the hearing of the bail application to March 31.

El-Rufai released from ICPC custody following his mum’s demise

Published

on

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted temporary bail from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The development is to enable him to attend the funeral rites of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27.

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, disclosed in a post on X that his father had been released from detention.

‘’My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention at the hands of one of the most corrupt agencies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is a lame excuse of a pathetic institution.

Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times. We have overcome, as the El-Rufais.” he wrote

El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and other related matters.

He spent over a month with the commission before his arraignment earlier this week before the Kaduna division of the Federal High Court.

The former governor was arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga, on charges bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the single-count charge linked to deposits into domiciliary accounts and the handling of earnings. The court adjourned ruling on his bail application to March 31, 2026, while he remains in custody.
