Marriage Requires Trust, Honesty, Transparency, and Joint Decision-Making

Published

on

Marriage is more than living under the same roof or sharing a name. It is a covenant that requires two people to build their lives together with trust, honesty, transparency, love, and wisdom. A healthy marriage cannot thrive where there is constant secrecy, deception, suspicion, or one-sided decision-making.

Trust is one of the foundations of a strong marriage. When husband and wife can depend on each other, they create an environment where love can grow. The Bible says:

“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her…” — Proverbs 31:11 (KJV)

Trust does not mean that a spouse must be perfect. It means both partners should be faithful, dependable, and committed to protecting the confidence of the marriage.

Honesty and transparency are also essential. A marriage becomes stronger when both partners can speak truthfully about their feelings, concerns, finances, friendships, mistakes, and plans without deliberately hiding things from each other. Scripture teaches:

“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour…” — Ephesians 4:25 (KJV)

Truth should not be used as a weapon to humiliate or destroy. It should be spoken with love, wisdom, and respect.

Joint decision-making is another important part of marriage. Marriage should not be a competition where one person controls everything while the other simply obeys. Major decisions concerning the family, finances, children, future, and important responsibilities should be approached with communication, understanding, and mutual consideration.

The Bible says:

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” — Amos 3:3 (KJV)

Agreement does not mean that a husband and wife will always have the same opinion. It means they are willing to listen, communicate, pray, seek wisdom, and work toward decisions that protect the unity and well-being of the family.

The Bible also reminds us:

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9 (KJV)

A strong marriage is a partnership. When one succeeds, the other should celebrate. When one struggles, the other should provide support. When difficult decisions arise, both should be willing to sit down and find a way forward together.

Above all, marriage requires love and humility. The Bible instructs:

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” — Ephesians 5:21 (KJV)

And:

“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” — Colossians 3:14 (KJV)

A marriage built on trust does not need constant suspicion. A marriage built on honesty does not need hidden lives. A marriage built on transparency does not fear open communication. And a marriage built on partnership does not make every important decision without considering the other person.

Marriage becomes stronger when two people choose to be truthful with each other, trust one another, communicate openly, seek God’s wisdom, and make important decisions together. Love is not only what you say; it is also what you consistently demonstrate through your actions.

I Started Acting 4 Years Before You -Veteran Actor Lere Paimo Counters Pete Edochie’s Seniority

Published

on

Veteran Yoruba actor Lere Paimo, popularly known as Baba Paimo, has weighed in on the ongoing debate over seniority in Nigeria’s acting industry, challenging a recent claim made by veteran actor Pete Edochie.

The 86-year-old actor insists that his acting journey began four years before Edochie’s, saying he started performing in 1958, while Edochie has traced his own acting career to 1962, when he was just 15 years old.

The issue came into the spotlight after Pete Edochie challenged actors who claim to have started their careers before him to come forward and provide evidence. Edochie had pointed to his performance in William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice in 1962 as proof of how far back his acting career goes.

However, speaking in an interview with actor Kunle Afod, shared on YouTube on Monday, Paimo stood firmly by his account.

“I started acting in 1958, and it was in 1962 that Pete Edochie started acting. I met Hubert Ogunde, who was senior to me and others, and there were big movies produced back then,” he said.

Paimo also used the opportunity to highlight the long history of Yoruba theatre, arguing that it existed before English-language film production became prominent in Nigeria.

According to him, the late theatre icon Hubert Ogunde was the earliest actor he personally knew of, adding that Ogunde had already made significant contributions to the industry from the 1940s.

“I heard from history that when he (Hubert Ogunde) started in the ’40s, there was nobody before him. We never heard or read that in any history books or documentation. I believe the Yoruba industry started first,” Paimo explained.

He noted that English-speaking movie production was not yet established at the time, while Ogunde was already producing Yoruba-language stage productions and films that entertained and educated audiences.

When asked if another theatre legend, Baba Olumegbon, could have started before Ogunde, Paimo admitted that he could not say for certain.

“I don’t know if Baba Olumegbon started before Ogunde, but all I know is that Ogunde was the person I knew who started acting first,” he said.

Paimo’s own remarkable career began with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group before he later joined the Duro Ladipo Theatre Group, where he became known for his role as Chief Basa in Obamoro.
