Makinde, Ladoja fault Fayose over alleged dethronement plot

Published

on

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday disagreed with the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over a reported plot to dethrone Ladoja.

In their separate reactions in Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde and Ladoja, through their media aides, described the reported plot to dethrone the Olubadan as unfounded and baseless rumour.

Fayose had, on his X handle, written that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He wrote: “I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,  Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“The plot is to commence this week, with a government query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations.”

The media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, in an interview with The PUNCH, described the statement credited to Fayose as unfounded.

He affirmed that there was no rift between Makinde and Olubadan to warrant such moves.

“It will be most unfortunate if it is not a rumour. Though I read it just the way you read it online. I don’t see the cause of friction between the governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.

Also, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, submitted that the government had never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter.

“Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better put in the refuse dump where it belongs.

“Desperate politics foists thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy into a joke,” he said.

Oborevwori unveils Obi Cubana’s luxury home in Delta

on

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Sunday attended the 51st birthday celebration of Obi Cubana, during which the Signature Home at Cubana Millennium City in Asaba was unveiled.

The event, held at the project site in Asaba, Delta State, drew dignitaries, industry leaders and investors, highlighting the growing importance of the development as a driver of urban transformation in the state.

According to a statement issued by the media team of Cubana Group, speaking at the occasion, Oborevwori commended the entrepreneur for investing in Delta State, describing the Cubana Millennium City as a landmark project with the potential to reshape Asaba and the surrounding areas.

“This development is not just about housing; it is about creating a new economic ecosystem. Projects like the Cubana Millennium City will significantly transform Asaba, extending growth and opportunities across neighbouring communities and strengthening our position as a key urban hub in the South-South and South-East corridors,” he said.

The governor added that his administration would continue to support private sector-driven initiatives aligned with its goals of economic expansion, infrastructure development and job creation.

The unveiling of the Signature Home marks a key milestone in the Cubana Millennium City project, serving as a model for the quality, design and lifestyle the development is expected to deliver.

In his remarks, Obi Cubana expressed appreciation to the governor and other guests, stating that the project is driven by a long-term vision to build a world-class residential and commercial hub.

“We are building more than houses—we are building a city that will stand the test of time and can rival any city in Africa. A place where people can live, work, invest, and thrive in an environment that meets global standards. This is our contribution to the growth of Asaba and the broader Nigerian economy,” he said.

He noted that the project’s location, near Asaba Airport and along major transport routes, positions it as an attractive investment destination with strong potential for value appreciation.

The Cubana Millennium City is designed as an integrated urban development comprising residential units, commercial spaces and lifestyle amenities, envisioned as a “city within a city.”

The event ended with a guided tour of the Signature Home, offering guests a first-hand view of the project’s architectural design and standards.

Ibadan indigenes caution Fayose over claim of plot to remove Ladoja

Published

on

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, on Sunday, came down on former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his comments alleging a plot by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, who made this known in a statement released by the council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, in Ibadan, the state capital, said Fayose’s comments were not only misleading but also a dangerous attempt to politicise traditional institutions in the state.

It will be recalled that Fayose had on Sunday on his X handle, claimed that Governor Makinde was planning to depose the Olubadan, Oba Ladoja, a statement that has triggered strong reactions from stakeholders in the state.

He wrote: “I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“The plot is to commence this week, with a government query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations.”

The CCII described the former governor’s remarks as unfounded, provocative and capable of inciting unrest in Ibadanland.

The statement quoted the CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, as expressing deep concern over what he termed reckless interference in Ibadan affairs.

Ajewole warned that Fayose’s remarks could create unnecessary tension in a city known for its respect for tradition and order.

“Ibadanland would not tolerate external attempts to destabilise its peace through careless political rhetoric. The allegation lacked credibility and should be disregarded by the public.

“Matters relating to the Olubadan stool follow a well-established process that cannot be altered by political speculation.”

He, therefore, cautioned Fayose against making statements capable of misleading the public or creating distrust among residents.

“Fayose should not inflame the polity in Ibadan and the state in general with reckless and unverified statements. We advise him to keep his mouth shut and take his divisive politics elsewhere rather than dragging Ibadan into unnecessary controversy.”

Ajewole further described Fayose’s intervention as unwarranted, insisting that the former governor had no role in the traditional or political structure of Ibadanland.

“Our own Governor Makinde is a true son of Ibadanland who would not do anything to undermine the institution of Olubadan. He is not in the same class and mould with Fayose who is ready to do anything for political gains,” the statement added.

He maintained that dragging the revered Olubadan institution into partisan discourse was both disrespectful and unacceptable.

The CCII President-General also called on political leaders across the country to exercise caution and avoid making statements that could disrupt public peace.

Ajewole reaffirmed that Ibadan people remain committed to unity, stability and the preservation of their traditional institutions, urging all stakeholders to resist any attempt to sow discord in the ancient city.

Meanwhile, a media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, also dismissed Fayose’s claim, describing it as unfounded.

Katsina to sponsor mass wedding for 1,000 couples

Published

on

Katsina State government has commenced arrangements for a large-scale mass marriage programme, popularly known as “Auren Gaya”, targeting 1,000 couples across the state in a bid to promote family stability and social welfare.

The initiative, which will see 2,000 individuals wed under a government-backed arrangement, is underway with the screening and training of selected participants drawn from various local government areas.

As part of the process, intending couples are undergoing compulsory premarital counselling organised by the Al-Usra Marital Support Foundation, an NGO dedicated to strengthening marriages and reducing divorce rates.

Speaking during one of the training sessions, the chairperson of the foundation, Hajiya Murjanatu Ibrahim, said the counselling is aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to build successful homes.

She explained that the sessions cover critical areas such as the roles and responsibilities of spouses, mutual understanding, and Islamic teachings on marriage.

To ensure effective coordination, the training has been decentralised into three zones, Katsina, Daura, and Funtua where participants attend sessions based on their local government areas.

According to her, only those who successfully complete the training will be issued certificates, now a mandatory requirement for participation in the mass wedding.

“Without the certificate, they will not be part of the marriage programme,” she stated.

Also speaking, the commander-general of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Aminu Usman, said the initiative would foster discipline, peaceful coexistence, and stronger family relationships in the state.

He noted that many parents had been unable to marry off their children due to financial constraints, making the programme a timely intervention.

Usman further disclosed that the government would provide essential items for the couples, including dowries and other marriage support packages.

He urged beneficiaries to pray for the success of the programme and to build their marriages on the fear of Allah, warning that the Hisbah Board would monitor the families to ensure compliance and sincerity.

“Those who intend to exploit the programme should know that they will sign undertakings, and we will monitor their homes,” he cautioned.

He added that the mass wedding, scheduled for April 25, 2026, marks the first phase of the initiative, with plans for subsequent phases in the coming months.

On her part, the public relations officer of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Amina Sada Mashi, confirmed that the female participants had undergone screening, including medical tests to ascertain their health status, as well as assessments of their conduct within their communities.

She called on the couples to take full advantage of the programme to build God-fearing families and contribute positively to society.

While the foundation is responsible for the training component, the state government is expected to handle other aspects of the programme, including welfare support for the beneficiaries.

The mass marriage initiative reflects the government’s broader efforts to address social challenges, support vulnerable groups, and encourage stable family life through structured and guided unions.
