Tottenham Captain, Son Heung-min Confirms Summer Exit After 10 Years

Tottenham Hotspur captain, Son Heung-min, has confirmed he will leave the club this summer after ten years in North London.
Son Heung-min, 33, made the announcement on Saturday during a press conference in Seoul, where the team is currently on a pre-season tour.
“Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer,” Son said. “Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision.”
Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has gone on to make over 450 appearances, scoring 173 goals. He recently lifted the Europa League trophy with Tottenham in May but endured a challenging season due to multiple leg injuries.
“It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision,” he added.
“I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change, 10 years is a long time. I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, at such a young age. I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.”
While Son did not reveal his next destination, he has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in the United States.
Speaking in Korean, he said Tottenham’s first European trophy in 41 years played a big role in his decision to leave.
“Winning a title in Europe felt like I had achieved everything I possibly could,” he said. “I spent a lot of time reflecting on whether I wanted to experience football in a different environment, and I had those conversations with myself over and over again.”
Tottenham’s new manager Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June, praised the outgoing forward.
“For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player,” Frank said. “He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players.”

CHAN 2024: Ogunmodede Backs Home-Based Super Eagles To Beat Senegal In Opener

One of the Home-based Super Eagles coaches, Daniel Ogunmodede, has expressed confidence in the side’s readiness to challenge defending champions Senegal in their opening fixture at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Home-based Super Eagles will face Senegal next Tuesday at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, marking their comeback to the CHAN finals after missing out on the last two editions.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Ogunmodede acknowledged the threat posed by Souleymane Diallo’s men but remained optimistic about Nigeria’s chances.
“Of course, Senegal are defending champions, so they’ll be eager to defend their title. But we’re ready to give them a very good fight,” Ogunmodede said in a chat with ESPN.
To sharpen their edge ahead of the tournament, the Home Eagles played back-to-back friendlies against Zanzibar earlier this week, allowing the squad to acclimate and fine-tune tactics.
The last time Nigeria featured in the tournament was in 2018, where they emerged as runners-up behind host nation Morocco. Their bronze-medal finish at the 2014 edition in South Africa also remains one of the team’s proudest CHAN moments.
Meanwhile, in a nod to past glories, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named former Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi among the all-time greats of the CHAN competition.
Uzoenyi, remembered for his dazzling pace and accurate left-footed deliveries, was the standout performer at the 2014 tournament and was crowned the Most Valuable Player.
His CHAN exploits helped catapult him into Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and also earned him a spot in the victorious 2013 Africa Cup of Nations team.
