A lot has changed in Abuja under Tinubu’s administration – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says a lot has changed in FCT under the administration of President Bola Tinubu in the last two and a half years.

Wike, who stated this after inspecting some ongoing projects in Abuja on Tuesday, pointed out that a lot has changed in the provision of infrastructure.

He said that in the 50th Anniversary of the FCT, the Tinubu administration had done pretty well, describing 2026 as a golden jubilee year for the nation’s capital.

“Remembering where we’re coming from, I think Mr President has changed the landscape of Abuja in the last two years in office and now going to three years.

“We are also following what the Abuja Master Plan says. So I think we have really done well to the glory of God in terms of infrastructure,” he said.

Speaking on the inspected projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the ongoing road construction in Gishiri, which he said would be inaugurated to celebrate Tinubu’s third year in office.

Wike also lauded the ongoing dualisation of the Outer Southern Expressway from Ring Road I to Ring Road II.

“You can see that the construction of the bridges is going well. Very good job.

“We are now here to see the road network for the informal sector, where the Apo traders will be relocated to. I’m quite impressed with CGC, the contractor handling the three projects.

“While this project will be completed in August, the OSEX area will be inaugurated as part of Tinubu’s third anniversary,” he said.

Reacting to the truce reached with FCT workers that led to the suspension of a planned protest by labour unions on Tuesday, the minister said there were no winners or losers.

He expressed delight that the union leaders have seen the realities on the ground, which have helped clear misconceptions.

“I’m happy that the trade union and labour congress came to see things for themselves. Sometimes it’s good. What they were told is not really what’s on the ground.

“But by and large, we have had a good meeting, and they’ve directed the workers to go back to work, which you can see has been done.

“So, we’re happy that at the end of the day, there is no winner, no loser. It’s in the interest of Abuja to progress,” he said.

Six Dead, 23 Injured in Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash

Six passengers have lost their lives, and 23 others were injured in a road crash around the Four Square Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident on Monday. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi, the crash occurred at about 11:27 a.m., involving a DAF CF 380 trailer with registration number SNA 287 XA. The FRSC rescue team reached the scene within two minutes, Channel Television reported.

Afolabi said fatigue and speeding caused the driver to lose control. He also warned against mixing passengers with cattle during transit, which increases the risk of accidents.

The injured and deceased were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.

The FRSC reminded drivers to service and inspect commercial vehicles regularly, maintain safe speeds, and observe road safety rules, especially on expressways.

Lagos bans installation of Eze Ndigbo, Seriki, threatens arrest

The Lagos State Government has warned against the assumption of chieftaincy titles without official approval, declaring that violators will face arrest and prosecution under the Obas and Chiefs Law of Lagos State 2015.

In a public statement signed by Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, the state described the trend of self-proclaimed traditional rulers as “an unhealthy development” that has caused “tension, confusion, and needless crises.”

The statement explained that such unauthorised titles, particularly those using appellations equivalent to “Oba,” “His Royal Majesty,” or “His Royal Highness,” are illegal. “The preponderance of these self-acclaimed Chieftaincy titles has reached an alarming level, rendering efforts at curbing these untoward excesses largely ineffective,” it said.

The government emphasised that the Governor, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, is the only authority empowered to approve chieftaincy titles in Lagos State. Sections 15, 16, 17, 18, and 20 of the 2015 law clearly outline the procedures for filling vacancies and granting such titles.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted that Section 21, Paragraphs 2(a-d), and Section 23, Paragraphs (a & b) prohibit the assumption of royal titles and the use of royal paraphernalia, including beaded crowns, beaded shoes, staffs, and horse whisks (irukere), by anyone not recognised by the government. “The State Government is set to enforce the law and, henceforth, bring violators to justice,” it added.

The statement warned that any chieftaincy title conferred without the Governor’s approval is null and void, adding that offenders will face up to two years imprisonment as prescribed by the law.
“Such actions will be viewed strongly as a deliberate infraction and affront on the traditional institution in the State,” it said.

Individuals currently holding unauthorised titles were urged to desist immediately. “Failure to comply with this directive may result in necessary actions, including legal proceedings in accordance with the extant laws,” the statement noted.

The government also called on residents to report any instances of unauthorised conferment of chieftaincy titles to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development or security agencies for prompt action.

Commissioner Robert said the measures are necessary to “protect and uphold the sanctity and integrity of the traditional institution in the State and preserve our most cherished culture and tradition from disrepute.”

Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader and pastor Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81. His death was confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, triggering an outpouring of tributes from Christian music communities and worship leaders across the world.

Kenoly was globally celebrated for his powerful live worship recordings and his influential role in shaping contemporary praise and worship music. His ministry and music resonated far beyond the United States, reaching churches across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas, where his songs became an integral part of modern worship services.

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly rose to international prominence in the late 20th century. He gained widespread acclaim with the release of Lift Him Up With Ron Kenoly in 1992, an album that helped redefine praise music. Songs such as “Ancient of Days,” “Jesus Is Alive,” and “We’re Going Up” went on to become enduring worship classics sung in churches around the world.

Over the course of his career, Kenoly released more than 20 albums, including God Is Able, Sing Out With One Voice and Welcome Home. His energetic, choir-backed performances and congregational worship style broke new ground, blending gospel, praise and contemporary Christian music in a way that influenced generations of worship leaders.

Beyond music, Kenoly was also a respected pastor and worship leader, serving prominently at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California. He was a regular feature at international worship conferences, seminars and church events, where he mentored worship teams and led large-scale praise gatherings.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes have continued to pour in from gospel artists, pastors and fans worldwide. Many have spoken of how Kenoly’s ministry shaped their faith and inspired their approach to worship. Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey and other notable worship leaders acknowledged his profound influence on multiple generations of psalmists.

The cause of death has not been officially disclosed by his family or representatives. Plans for memorial services and celebrations of his life are expected to be announced in the coming days.
