The Nigerian military is set for the burial rites of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja whose remains arrived in Abuja on Thursday.
The Nigerian Air Force plane touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, carrying the body of the late COAS.
His arrival is in preparation for his final interment at the National Christian Centre in Abuja’s Central Business District.
The funeral services are scheduled to commence on Thursday with a Service of Songs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
According to the Director of Army Public Relations, the late COAS final interment will follow at the National Military Cemetery from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the same day.
On November 12, a delegation from the Defence and Army Headquarters, led by Major General KI Yusuf, Chief of Accounts and Budgets, visited Osun State to express condolences to the family of the late Lagbaja.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja served as Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, following his appointment by Tinubu in June 2023.
His military career began in 1987 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992.
Lagbaja has been celebrated for his unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s security and his commitment to advancing the capabilities and values of the Nigerian Army.
He made significant contributions to the nation’s security framework, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue inspiring the army and the country.
